從《杰·阿·普魯弗洛克的情歌》看托·斯·艾略特的文學(xué)理論與實(shí)踐

托·斯·艾略特(1888—1965)是二十世紀(jì)英美文學(xué)史上最重要的詩人之一,同時(shí)也是一個(gè)有極大影響的文學(xué)批評(píng)家,是英美新批評(píng)派的開山鼻祖。他對(duì)于傳統(tǒng)的新闡釋具有劃時(shí)代的意義;他提出的“非個(gè)性化”理論和尋找“客觀對(duì)應(yīng)物”的創(chuàng)作手法對(duì)現(xiàn)代西方文學(xué)批評(píng)和詩歌創(chuàng)作產(chǎn)生了巨大的影響。他的詩和一套文論引發(fā)了人們轟轟烈烈的討論與研究,至今余波未息。然而,人們往往未能把他的文論和詩歌作品聯(lián)系起來研究,由此導(dǎo)致對(duì)艾略特作品的片面理解或不理解,甚至誤解。事實(shí)上,作家的文藝觀點(diǎn)總是貫穿于他的創(chuàng)作實(shí)踐。換言之,作家的作品是其文藝思想的再現(xiàn)與具體化,正如《偉大的傳統(tǒng)》序中所言:“文學(xué)批評(píng)史上的主要人物(如柯爾律治和托·斯·艾略特)往往也有文學(xué)作品傳世,他們既是批評(píng)家,又是詩人,人們因欽佩他們的詩才而相信他們的判斷!币虼,本文力圖結(jié)合艾略特的文論《傳統(tǒng)與個(gè)人才能》對(duì)他的文藝思想作一些初步的探討,并聯(lián)系其早期名詩《杰·阿爾弗瑞得·普魯弗洛克的情歌》(以下簡(jiǎn)稱為《情歌》)考察其理論與實(shí)踐的結(jié)合。本文以新批評(píng)尤其是細(xì)讀法為主要理論框架來探討《情歌》的藝術(shù)價(jià)值,指出艾略特的“傳統(tǒng)”觀、“客觀對(duì)應(yīng)物”理論和“非個(gè)性化”思...
