作為莎士比亞的最后一個(gè)劇本,社會(huì)環(huán)境賦予了《暴風(fēng)雨》很多的意義。很多的批評家從不同的角度對它進(jìn)行了多方面的分析。后殖民理論的批評家對它進(jìn)行分析以后,就引發(fā)了一個(gè)強(qiáng)烈的對抗,因?yàn)閭鹘y(tǒng)的理論家認(rèn)為《暴風(fēng)雨》不是一個(gè)后殖民文本,不可以把賽義德的東方學(xué)運(yùn)用到文本分析中。本論文以賽義德的東方學(xué)為依據(jù),按照東方主義者的言行和思想規(guī)范對普洛斯帕羅進(jìn)行分析。 普洛斯帕羅的東方主義者身份體現(xiàn)在他對島上居民進(jìn)行的物質(zhì)和精神的統(tǒng)治以及他對自己的女兒米蘭達(dá)的教育上。但是他最終失敗了,放棄了他的權(quán)力和對其他人的控制。從這一點(diǎn)上看,賽義德在抵制和推翻東方主義的權(quán)威上所表現(xiàn)出來的信心是可以理解的。
