美國現(xiàn)代女作家伊迪絲·華頓（Edith Wharton, 1862-1937）是20世紀(jì)初現(xiàn)實主義文學(xué)代表人物之一，她在作品中塑造的眾多女性形象尤其受到西方女權(quán)主義者的推崇，被認(rèn)為是西方女性主義的先驅(qū)作家。華頓了解現(xiàn)代女性的社會地位，作為一名女性作家，她通過細(xì)致入微的描述向讀者展現(xiàn)了人物的內(nèi)心世界。她的小說遠(yuǎn)遠(yuǎn)地超越了同時代的其它美國小說。1930年，她獲得全國藝術(shù)文學(xué)院頒布的金章獎，是美國第一個取得這項榮譽的女作家�！稓g樂之家》是她的成名作，發(fā)表于1905年。沒有經(jīng)濟地位的女主人公莉莉·巴特依附于上流社會，她的唯一目標(biāo)是嫁給有錢人。由于“接受一個男人的津貼”和“勾引有婦之夫”最終被上流社會拒之門外而悲慘的死去。她是一個典型的男權(quán)社會的犧牲品。本人認(rèn)為小說的中心主題是自我發(fā)現(xiàn)，并基于這個主題來研究女主人公莉莉·巴特的悲劇。它是一個重要的不可忽略的主題。根據(jù)社會心理學(xué)家愛德華·托利·希金斯對自我模式中自我的分類和定義以及女權(quán)主義者西蒙·德·波娃的女性主義觀點來分析在男權(quán)社會中莉莉無法實現(xiàn)的自我以及莉莉與自我、莉莉與上流社會的沖突和斗爭，以此來反映她作為女人處于第二性的地位和命運。愛德華·...
