英國現(xiàn)代作家弗吉尼亞·伍爾夫的小說《達(dá)洛維太太》描述了兩個(gè)分屬不同階級的人物:代表上層階級的下議院議員太太克拉麗莎·達(dá)洛維,代表平民階級的一戰(zhàn)退伍老兵賽普帝莫斯·沃倫·史密斯。前者精神健全;后者則患有精神病。這兩個(gè)人物從來沒有見過面,但小說卻安排他們在某些時(shí)刻處于同一個(gè)場景,或通過一系列的人或物完成他們之間的轉(zhuǎn)換。小說通過雙重線索的并行將男與女、生與死、理性與瘋狂、上層社會(huì)和下層社會(huì)數(shù)個(gè)二元對立的元素分別賦予克拉麗莎和賽普帝莫斯,從而揭示他們身份認(rèn)同上的危機(jī)。在作品中,看似對立、矛盾的兩位主要人物卻有著相同的孤獨(dú)感、恐懼感和異化感。他們都認(rèn)為自己身處一個(gè)不安全的環(huán)境中,經(jīng)常會(huì)想到死亡,同時(shí)也認(rèn)為自己對人生與生命沒有掌控力�？死惿m然是議員的太太,卻不能被上層社會(huì)完全接納,加上她的丈夫?qū)λ牟焕斫庖约芭畠旱氖桦x導(dǎo)致了她的異化感的產(chǎn)生。賽普帝莫斯得不到妻子的關(guān)愛,同時(shí)還要忍受如霍姆斯和布雷德肖醫(yī)生的壓制和殘害,因此有了強(qiáng)烈的異化感。克拉麗莎和賽普帝莫斯的這些孤獨(dú)感、恐懼感和異化感主要來自于他們各自與他者不協(xié)調(diào)的關(guān)系,加上社會(huì)的變遷,如戰(zhàn)爭的影響、工黨的興起和海外殖民的動(dòng)搖,導(dǎo)致他們身份感...
