威廉.福克納（1897-1962）是20世紀(jì)美國最重要的小說家之一。在1950年獲得諾貝爾文學(xué)獎之前,他在美國基本默默無名,但卻在歐洲深受歡迎,受到像法國的薩特、加繆這樣的大師的推崇。美國的伯樂直到1946年才出現(xiàn),其年,著名學(xué)者馬爾科姆?考爾利編輯出版了《袖珍本福克納文集》,促成“�？思{熱”迅速升溫。1950年�？思{被授予諾貝爾文學(xué)獎,國際聲譽(yù)攀至顛峰。在中國,�？思{研究近年來發(fā)展迅速,主要作品均已有了中譯本,每年有大量相關(guān)學(xué)術(shù)論文問世。尤其值得一提的是,肖明翰教授的學(xué)術(shù)專著《威廉.�？思{研究》（1997）,對福克納研究的各個領(lǐng)域進(jìn)行了全面、系統(tǒng)、深刻的闡釋,是廣大�？思{研究者的指南。�？思{一生中絕大部分時間都生活在密西西比州的奧克斯弗鎮(zhèn),他的歷史、他的思想、他的小說同這個偏僻的南方小鎮(zhèn)、密西西比、乃至整個南方都息息相關(guān)。他用生動的文學(xué)形象,勾畫出一個他所熟悉的南方。這個南方在地理位置、歷史進(jìn)程、政治制度、生產(chǎn)方式和文化傳統(tǒng)等方面都不同于美國其他地方,尤其是北方。這種相對的獨(dú)特性和獨(dú)立性使南方人對自己的歷史與傳統(tǒng)產(chǎn)生了難以割舍的浪漫主義情節(jié),凝聚成一股濃郁的地域主義意緒。身為南方的繼...
