美國(guó)華人移民及其后裔是一個(gè)在東西方文化交流碰撞中集中體現(xiàn)融合與抵斥并存之矛盾的群體。在他們的文學(xué)作品中，既有文化的合流，又從不缺乏因撞擊引起的種種問(wèn)題與困擾。作為美國(guó)多元文化和世界移民現(xiàn)象重要產(chǎn)物的美國(guó)華裔文學(xué)在當(dāng)代正開(kāi)始受到越來(lái)越多的關(guān)注。 美國(guó)亞裔學(xué)者金依蓮指出，美國(guó)華裔文學(xué)作品不僅僅具有文學(xué)意義，整體而言，它還兼顧了社會(huì)綜述功能，更具有歷史文獻(xiàn)的重要價(jià)值。對(duì)于當(dāng)代評(píng)論家來(lái)說(shuō)，擁有詳盡、準(zhǔn)確的史料是解讀文本、進(jìn)行作品分析的一塊基石；而對(duì)于當(dāng)代讀者而言，了解作者、文本所處的社會(huì)環(huán)境能夠激發(fā)閱讀興趣，有助于免除不必要的誤讀和誤解。 本篇論文旨在對(duì)早期暨18世紀(jì)晚期至20世紀(jì)60年代的美國(guó)華裔生活和他們的文學(xué)作品，及此兩者間的關(guān)系及相互影響做一番較為仔細(xì)的梳理。以期用翔實(shí)可考的資料與分析豐富至此為止關(guān)于美國(guó)華裔文學(xué)早期階段的研究。本文共分三章，第一章主要是歷史考察和社會(huì)背景分析，因?yàn)檫@是美國(guó)華裔文學(xué)作品出現(xiàn)和存在的前提。第二章在時(shí)間跨度上包括了美國(guó)排華法案正式實(shí)施的60年(1882-1943)。第三章內(nèi)容的時(shí)間跨度為1943年到60年代中期。全文主要從時(shí)間及歷史事件的發(fā)展上理清脈絡(luò)，在縱向上整體把握線索的同時(shí)做好每一個(gè)不同階段的細(xì)分整理與文學(xué)作品分析。
