《水仙號上的黑水手》是康拉德早期的力作，也被公認為是他第一部真正意義上的英文小說。本文試圖從神話圣經(jīng)角度解讀這部作品，運用原型理論探討蘊含其中的各種圣經(jīng)原型。通過分析小說的敘事結(jié)構(gòu)、情節(jié)、意象與人物塑造等方面的圣經(jīng)原型以及這些圣經(jīng)原型的置換變形，來揭示康拉德對于勇敢、忠誠、責任、正義等傳統(tǒng)價值觀的認可和肯定。并且，本文試圖解構(gòu)原有批評對康拉德早期作品中的消極的人生態(tài)度的定論，利用原型批評模式重塑早期康拉德的形象：一個對人生充滿信心的作家，一個流亡他鄉(xiāng)的愛國青年。通過小說，他告訴廣大讀者，如果人類堅守傳統(tǒng)的價值觀和道德準則，最終救贖就有希望；正如以色列人當年能夠從殘暴的法老統(tǒng)治中獲得解放一樣，他的祖國波蘭也能最終戰(zhàn)勝沙俄統(tǒng)治者，取得民族自由解放。
