論V.S.奈保爾作品中的印度“混雜人”形象

【摘要】:奈保爾特殊的生活經(jīng)歷,使他受到了“混雜”文化的影響,具有多重的文化身份。無法棄絕的特立尼達(dá)情結(jié),家族賜予他的印度血統(tǒng),在宗主國(guó)學(xué)習(xí)、工作和生活的經(jīng)歷,讓他在多重文化身份之間游走,所以他被許多學(xué)者稱為“特立尼達(dá)的印度人”、“印度的海外浪子”、“英國(guó)的特立尼達(dá)人”、“無根的作家”、“世界作家”等等。奈保爾的作品中塑造了大量的印度“混雜人”形象,本文根據(jù)奈保爾作品中涉及到的地理空間作為分類標(biāo)準(zhǔn),分別研究了特立尼達(dá)的印度“混雜人”形象和西方世界中的印度“混雜人”形象,并且分析了他們的物質(zhì)生活狀況和精神生活狀況。同時(shí)以奈保爾的印度三部曲為文本,探究這些印度“混雜人”與印度之間的聯(lián)系。 本篇論文分為三章來研究奈保爾作品中的印度“混雜人”形象,運(yùn)用文本細(xì)讀的研究方法,并且參照了薩義德、霍米·巴巴、斯皮瓦克等后殖民理論家的理論展開研究。第一章,以奈保爾的出生地特立尼達(dá)為背景,將他的短篇小說集《米格爾街》作為文本,分析了西印度群島上的印度“混雜人”形象。他們與島上其他“混雜人”一樣處于物質(zhì)生活和精神生活上的邊緣境地,他們對(duì)于母國(guó)文化逐漸遺忘,同時(shí)不斷受到外來文化和其他種族文化的侵襲,無論他們?nèi)绾螔暝?這部分印度“混雜人”的生活都是悲劇的。將《靈異推拿師》中的甘涅沙作為典型人物形象進(jìn)行分析,并且運(yùn)用霍米·巴巴的雜交理論來分析這個(gè)把東西方文化混合成功的印度“混雜人”形象。第二章,以奈保爾的小說《孤獨(dú)的人》、《告訴我,殺了誰》和《抵達(dá)之謎》為文本進(jìn)行分析,深入的研究了流落到西方世界的印度“混雜人”的生存狀況!豆陋(dú)的人》中的主人公桑什托是從孟買跟隨雇主來到美國(guó)的,當(dāng)母國(guó)文化和異國(guó)文化在他內(nèi)心相互碰撞時(shí),他在這種文化差異的斷層中迷失了自己,精神上的疏離感與矛盾感讓他們失去了真正的“自由”!兜诌_(dá)之謎》是奈保爾的自傳體小說,小說中的主人公與作者本人的生活經(jīng)歷相似。小說中的主人公,因?yàn)樵谟?guó)生活和工作,逐漸的接受了西方文明和宗主國(guó)的文化。對(duì)他而言,宗主國(guó)的文化是他的文化源泉,是他的文化養(yǎng)母,所以他對(duì)于殖民者持有一種和解的態(tài)度,盡管內(nèi)心之中仍然無法擺脫作為“外來人”的疏離感。第三章,主要是跟隨作者本人造訪印度,以奈保爾的印度三部曲為文本進(jìn)行分析,探究這些印度“混雜人”包括作者本人與印度本土的聯(lián)系,他們雖然離開了印度或者從未踏上印度,母國(guó)的血統(tǒng)使他們對(duì)于故土既想親近又不得不疏離。特立尼達(dá)上的印度“混雜人”無論是從生活習(xí)慣上還是宗教等方面都想要保留印度的傳統(tǒng),然而他們?cè)谶@些方面早已經(jīng)與印度的本土人有所區(qū)別。而作者本人,因?yàn)槭艿轿鞣缴鐣?huì)的世界觀影響,對(duì)于自己的母國(guó)是既想親近又不得不疏離。作為印度后裔的他無法否認(rèn)自己受到的印度影響,卻又與印度本土人有了本質(zhì)上的差別。 關(guān)于奈保爾的文化身份問題,許多學(xué)者已經(jīng)研究過了,但是他們對(duì)其作品中人物形象的混雜性研究不夠多,不夠系統(tǒng),也不夠詳實(shí)。在全球化、多元文化發(fā)展的今天,我們研究奈保爾作品中的印度“混雜人”形象也是非常具有現(xiàn)實(shí)意義的。
