【摘要】：繼湯婷婷之后,譚恩美是華裔美國文學(xué)中又一位深具影響力的作家,其處女作《喜福會》一經(jīng)發(fā)表,便引起了學(xué)術(shù)界與普通讀者的廣泛關(guān)注。之后,她又創(chuàng)作了包括《灶神之妻》、《接骨師之女》、《拯救溺水魚》等多部暢銷長篇小說�？梢哉f,譚恩美的作品為華裔美國文學(xué)敲開了美國出版業(yè)的大門。 《喜福會》之所以會一炮而紅,筆者認(rèn)為有兩點(diǎn)不容忽視。一是小說的基本情節(jié)與主題同西方讀者的價(jià)值觀不謀而合；二是小說中有大量的關(guān)于中國傳統(tǒng)故事的細(xì)節(jié)描寫,這不但引發(fā)了西方主流讀者的興趣,蘊(yùn)含于其中的東方主義意識也迎合了他們對東方的想象和窺視。這兩點(diǎn)也是小說被好萊塢選中的主要原因,同時(shí)也是票房的有利保證。這樣成功的案例在好萊塢的百年歷史上早已屢見不鮮。但是,這些成功的背后卻不乏對中國和中國人的形象的歪曲,并使之模式化,其中的模式典型是以傅滿洲為代表的黃禍和陳查理為代表的模仿少數(shù)族裔,而女性則多被刻畫為柔弱、被動、需要被拯救的,蘇西黃則是其中的典型人物。 改編自同名小說的電影《喜福會》一經(jīng)上映,便引起轟動,新一輪的譚恩美研究熱潮再一次興起,尤其是關(guān)于華裔形象塑造的討論愈演愈烈。本文將運(yùn)用薩義德的東方主義理論,對比小說與電影,通過對故事情節(jié)與臺詞的有意刪減、增添以及改變來試圖說明電影《喜福會》沿襲了好萊塢電影對中國以及中國人(華裔)形象的模式化塑造。相比小說,電影中母親的話語權(quán)極大地減少,女兒們?nèi)谌朊绹鐣钠D辛被忽視,從而造成了對原作品的主旨的誤讀,沒有將原著的精髓完整地傳達(dá)給觀眾,而是迎合根植于美國主流社會的充滿偏見的中國形象來贏取更多的票房。
[Abstract]:After Kingston, Amy Tan is another influential writer in Chinese American literature. After that, she wrote several popular novels, including the wife of Kitchen God, the daughter of the Patriarch, and the Salvation of drowning Fish. It can be said that Amy Tan's works have opened the door to the American publishing industry for Chinese American literature. One is that the basic plot and theme of the novel coincide with the values of the western readers; the other is that there are a large number of detailed descriptions of Chinese traditional stories in the novels, which not only arouse the interest of mainstream Western readers, The Orientalism consciousness contained in it also caters to their imagination and peep into the East. These are also the main reasons why the novel was chosen by Hollywood, and also the box-office guarantee. Such successful cases have long been common in Hollywood's 100-year history. However, behind these successes there is no shortage of distortion and stereotyping of the image of China and the Chinese. The model is typically the Huang disaster represented by Fu Manchu and the imitation of ethnic minorities represented by Charlie Chan. Women are often portrayed as weak, passive and in need of rescue, and Suxi Huang is a typical figure. The film "Joy Luck Club", adapted from the novel of the same name, caused a stir once more, and the new wave of Amy Tan's research sprung up again, especially the discussion about the image of Chinese people. This article will use said's orientalism theory, contrasts the novel and the movie, through to the story plot and the line intentional deletion, Add and change to try to explain that the film Joy Luck Club follows Hollywood films' stereotypical portrayal of China and Chinese (Chinese). Compared to the novel, the mother's right to speak is greatly reduced in the film, and the hardships of the daughters' integration into American society are ignored, which results in the misreading of the main theme of the original work and does not completely convey the essence of the original work to the audience. Instead, it caters to the biased image of China rooted in the mainstream American society to win more box office.
