用合作原則和禮貌原則分析《曼斯菲爾德莊園》中的會話含義

【摘要】:一部文學作品之所以歷久彌新成為經典,是因為作品中人物生動的言語行為及鮮活的性格特點能夠打動一代又一代的讀者。英國女作家簡·奧斯丁的小說《曼斯菲爾德莊園》便是這樣的作品。在這部小說中,人物的日常交際主要是通過對話實現(xiàn)的,因此研究這部作品中的人物對話十分必要。 本文回顧了19世紀和現(xiàn)當代關于簡·奧斯丁和《曼斯菲爾德莊園》的文學研究和批評,發(fā)掘出運用語用學理論分析《曼斯菲爾德莊園》里的會話含義的可行性和必要性。本文使用的語用理論是格瑞斯的合作原則和會話準則,里奇的禮貌原則和準則,以及布朗和萊文森的間接禮貌策略。本文對這三個理論進行了闡述,并解釋了它們之間的關系,為分析會話含義和間接表達提供了清晰的理論框架和研究工具。 本文通過運用定量和定性研究相結合的方法,對從《曼斯菲爾德莊園》里精選的33個典型的使用間接表達的對話進行詳細剖析。根據間接禮貌策略在語言形式上的實現(xiàn)方式,對這些對話明確歸類并進行比較分析。定量研究是為了弄清在該部作品的語言中,違反合作原則及準則的情況及所占的比例,進而總結出小說中各個人物的語言及性格特點。定性研究是為了分析小說人物違背合作原則和會話準則,采用間接表達方式,制造會話含義的原因。這主要是由于他們顧及到交談者的面子問題以及言語交際中的禮貌原則。為了減少對交談者的面子威脅,說話者往往使用看似禮貌的言語方式,隱諱的表達自己的真實想法和情感。這樣做可以避免直接沖突,尷尬或種種不良后果。說話者的會話含義在特定場合和情況下是確定的,并且他們希望交談者能夠領會這種字面以外的含義。但是因為語境,交談雙方的理念,背景知識等因素,會話含義不一定能夠被理解。本文運用上述語用學理論對具體例子的會話含義的產生,詮釋和理解都做了詳盡分析。 綜上所述,本研究通過運用合作原則和禮貌原則為理論對《曼斯菲爾德莊園》的會話含義進行了剖析,一方面更深層地揭示了小說人物性格,從而有助于讀者更好地理解和欣賞小說。另一方而豐富了傳統(tǒng)的對簡·奧斯丁的研究,并拓寬了語用學在文學領域的應用。
[Abstract]:The reason why a literary work has become a classic is that the vivid speech act and vivid character of the characters in the works can impress the readers from generation to generation. British woman writer Jane Austen's novel Mansfield Abbey is such a work. In this novel, the daily communication of characters is mainly realized through dialogue, so it is necessary to study the dialogue of characters in this novel. This paper reviews the literary research and criticism of Jane Austen and Mansfield Manor in the 19th century and present time, and explores the feasibility and necessity of using pragmatic theory to analyze the conversational implicature in Mansfield Manor. The pragmatic theories used in this paper are Grace's Cooperative principle and conversational principle, Richie's Politeness principle and principle, and Brown and Levinson's indirect Politeness Strategies. This paper expounds the three theories and explains the relationship between them, which provides a clear theoretical framework and research tool for the analysis of conversational implicature and indirect expression. By combining quantitative and qualitative studies, this paper makes a detailed analysis of 33 typical dialogues with indirect expressions selected from Mansfield Manor. According to the realization of indirect politeness strategy in language form, this paper categorizes these dialogues and makes a comparative analysis. The purpose of the quantitative study is to find out the violation of the principles and norms of cooperation in the language of the novel and its proportion, and to sum up the language and character characteristics of the characters in the novel. The qualitative study is to analyze the reasons why the characters violate the cooperative principle and conversational principle and use indirect expressions to create conversational implicature. This is mainly because they take into account the face of the communicator and the principle of politeness in verbal communication. In order to reduce the face threat to the talker, the speaker often uses the seemingly polite way to express his true thoughts and feelings. Doing so avoids direct conflict, embarrassment, or adverse consequences. The conversational implicature of the speaker is certain in a given situation and circumstances, and they want the speaker to understand the literal meaning. However, the implicature may not be understood because of the context, the ideas of the two parties and the background knowledge. This paper makes a detailed analysis of the generation, interpretation and understanding of the conversational implicature of concrete examples by using the above pragmatic theories. To sum up, this study analyzes the conversational implicature of Mansfield Manor by applying the principles of cooperation and politeness, on the one hand, it reveals the character of the characters in the novel. This will help readers to better understand and appreciate the novel. On the other hand, it enriches the traditional study of Jane Austen and widens the application of pragmatics in literature.
