[Abstract]:After the publication of the Home of the pointed Tree, Sarah Orne Jewett gained a strong position as a classical writer in the American literary world. Her description of Dennailing faithfully chronicles life on the coast of Man, and Jewett is always on the list whenever he talks about native American writers. In his works, Jewett expressed dissatisfaction with the Industrial Revolution, nostalgia for rural life and respect for nature, which became the focus of many scholars. In this paper, the author will study the relationship between the sexes in his works by eliminating the patriarchal and heterosexual literary criticism from the background of the times. The paper has three chapters. The introduction summarizes previous studies and attempts to provide readers with a clear understanding of the latest research trends. In the first chapter, the author narrates the love between men and women into three categories. The second chapter mainly explains the intimate relationship between women. Although there is no precise and detailed description of homosexuality, careful readers can still discern the narrator's and Mrs. Todd's love from some hidden clues. Jewett's previous letters and works provide us with evidence. The third chapter studies the sisterhood of the female community. A female-oriented Utopia is constructed in the work, which supports each other, divides work and gives up to others. The author will discuss the following three aspects: female-dominated utopia, male marginalization and community limitations. The gender ambiguity in this work is obvious. Jewett breaks the traditional definition of the two sexes, and her characters show the character of androgyny. After detailed analysis of the community's living environment, ritual etiquette, the author will explore the relationship between men and women. The town of the fir tree is known as Jewett's most famous work, which clearly reflects her ideal relationship. In her narration, the female subjectivity is prominent, she advocates the gender equality. As a local color writer, she wants to familiarize people elsewhere with life and gender relations in this little-known area. Through simple and detailed daily language, Jewett succeeded in presenting the new women to get rid of the control and oppression of patriarchy and to view marriage with new ideas. Their love is simple but deeply moving. The author divides Jewett's romantic love between the two sexes into four categories, which reflects her views on love and marriage. As a female writer, Jewett has highlighted her focus on the status of women in the community. By studying the position of men and women in the community and their communication, the author explains Jewett's ideal gender relationship. What's more, Jewett broke the taboo of that era and expanded the field of love to include the intimate relationship between women. In a word, the Acud Home of the fir offers us a new perspective on the relationship between men and women, and its artistic and social values will continue to attract new readers to interpret it.
