從女性哥特解讀麥卡勒斯作品的顛覆性

【摘要】:卡森麥卡勒斯是二十世紀(jì)美國南方一位獨(dú)特的女作家,在其短暫的生命中創(chuàng)作了不少的文學(xué)作品。她著力表現(xiàn)人類的精神孤獨(dú),所以評論界普遍認(rèn)為其作品是人類精神孤獨(dú)狀態(tài)的寓言,而相對忽視了作家對美國南方社會問題和南方文化的關(guān)注與批判。本文選取了麥卡勒斯寫于二十世紀(jì)四十年代的三部重要作品,即《心是孤獨(dú)的獵手》,《傷心咖啡館之歌》和《婚禮的成員》為研究對象,從女性哥特的視角來解讀其作品對當(dāng)時南方主流社會文化的挑戰(zhàn)與批判。女性哥特是把女性主義和哥特手法相結(jié)合而產(chǎn)生的一個研究領(lǐng)域,但目前學(xué)界對其沒有統(tǒng)一明晰的界定,所以在本文中女性哥特主要是指運(yùn)用哥特手法對社會邊緣人的描繪與關(guān)注。作為在美國南方成長起來的女性作家,麥卡勒斯在其作品中關(guān)注女性人物,但其著力描繪的女性角色有著各種怪異之處,與南方主流文化所要求的南方淑女形象相去甚遠(yuǎn)。除了女性人物,麥卡勒斯在作品中對社會邊緣人給予了高度關(guān)注,她筆下的角色都是社會中失去話語權(quán)的邊緣人物。所以本文從女性哥特視角,著重分析了麥卡勒斯作品中的三位女性人物和兩位邊緣化男性角色,進(jìn)而討論女作家的創(chuàng)作策略和創(chuàng)作目的,并揭示出:麥卡勒斯是一位具有強(qiáng)烈社會干預(yù)意識的作家,她的作品不是簡單的孤獨(dú)寓言,而是通過對社會邊緣人的描繪和關(guān)注,對當(dāng)時南方的主流文化做出了挑戰(zhàn)與顛覆,進(jìn)而引發(fā)人們對普遍接受的社會文化價值觀進(jìn)行重新思考。
[Abstract]:In 20th century, Carson McCullers was a unique female writer in the South of the United States, who wrote a lot of literature in her short life. So critics generally think that his work is a parable of the state of human spiritual loneliness. This paper chooses three important works written by McCullers in 1940s. "the Heart is the Lonely Hunter," the Song of the sad Cafe "and" the members of the Wedding "were the subjects of the study." From the perspective of female Gothic, the author interprets the challenge and criticism of her works to the mainstream social culture of the South at that time. Female Gothic is a research field that combines feminism and Gothic techniques. But at present, there is no uniform and clear definition of Gothic in academic circles, so in this paper, female Gothic mainly refers to the depiction and concern of the marginalized people in society by using Gothic technique. As a female writer who has grown up in the South of the United States, McCullers focuses on female characters in his works, but her portrayal of female characters has all sorts of weirdness, which is far from the southern lady image required by the mainstream culture of the South, except for female characters. McCullers pays great attention to the marginalized people in her works, and her characters are all marginal characters who lose their right to speak in the society. This paper focuses on the analysis of three female characters and two marginalized male characters in McCullers' works, and then discusses the creation strategy and purpose of the female writers, and reveals that McCullers is a writer with a strong sense of social intervention. Her works are not a simple lonely fable, but through depicting and paying attention to the marginalized people, she challenges and subverts the mainstream culture of the South at that time, and then causes people to rethink the universally accepted social and cultural values.
