在《紅樓夢》中,有大量委婉語,均具有豐富的文化內涵,而目前順應論視角下《紅樓夢》中委婉語的英譯研究并不多。鑒于此,本文旨在探索以下兩個問題:1)基于委婉語的對象和范圍,《紅樓夢》中委婉語應如何進行分類?2)在翻譯委婉語的過程中,譯者可以采用哪些翻譯方法?根據《紅樓夢》及其兩個英譯本,本研究主要采用三種研究方法:文獻分析,文本分析和案例研究。本文以維索爾倫的順應論為理論框架,從順應論的兩個方面,即語境關系的順應、語言結構的順應這一視角對《紅樓夢》中的英語委婉語展開研究,并從功能、特點以及分類方面進行分析。研究發(fā)現:1)基于委婉語所涉及的對象和范圍,《紅樓夢》中委婉語可以分為以下幾類:死亡、疾病、性愛、殉葬、妓女、愛情以及稱謂。2)本研究基于楊憲益夫婦和霍克斯、閔福德英譯本,從順應論出發(fā),探討了《紅樓夢》中委婉語的翻譯方法,對《紅樓夢》中出現的委婉語,翻譯時宜采用直譯法、意譯法、增譯法和省譯法。
