語域理論視角下楊氏夫婦《邊城》英譯本研究

【摘要】:《邊城》是京派小說家沈從文先生的代表作,被譽為“現(xiàn)代文學(xué)史上最純凈的一個小說文本”、“中國現(xiàn)代文學(xué)牧歌傳說中的頂峰之作”。它被翻譯成十三種語言,在全球四十多個國家出版。目前共有四個英譯本,其中以楊憲益戴乃迭夫婦《邊城》譯本和金介甫《邊城》第一本單行譯本最為關(guān)注。2009年譯林出版社出版了楊氏《邊城》雙語版。楊氏譯本忠實于原文,如實傳遞中國文化,具有很高的研究價值和指導(dǎo)意義。因此,本論文將以楊氏夫婦的這一譯本為研究對象。國內(nèi)外學(xué)者對楊氏譯本研究居多,但研究多以翻譯美學(xué)視角,譯者主體性視角以及功能對等視角為主,卻未從語域理論進行研究。語域理論由倫敦學(xué)派提出,發(fā)源于英國的語境主義,現(xiàn)在已經(jīng)是英國語言學(xué)家韓禮德功能語言思想的重要內(nèi)容。韓禮德指出,語域由多種情境特征,特別是語篇語場、語篇基調(diào)和語篇方式相聯(lián)系的語言特征構(gòu)成,即語場、語旨和語式。語場指話語參與者所從事的活動;語旨指參與者的性質(zhì)、社會角色和他們之間的交際關(guān)系;語式指語言交際的渠道與媒介。本論文將以語域理論為視角對《邊城》楊氏譯本進行研究,分別從語域三變量語場、語旨、語式對這一譯本在音層、詞層、句層和段層的語域標(biāo)識進行分析,探討譯本是否再現(xiàn)了原文的語域特征,從而重現(xiàn)人物形象和再現(xiàn)原文風(fēng)格。通過從語場角度對《邊城》楊氏譯本人物外貌、心理、動作和環(huán)境描寫部分進行分析,發(fā)現(xiàn)其再現(xiàn)了原文的語域,從而再現(xiàn)原文故事情節(jié)。從語旨角度對這一譯本的三組對話進行分析,發(fā)現(xiàn)其再現(xiàn)了人物的社會地位和關(guān)系,從而再現(xiàn)了人物形象。從語式角度對這一譯本的書面語和口語進行分析,發(fā)現(xiàn)其再現(xiàn)了原文的語域,從而再現(xiàn)了原作的寫作風(fēng)格。據(jù)此,本文試圖指出在小說翻譯中,譯者在翻譯過程中識別語域并把握語場、語旨和語式,可以有效地在譯文中重現(xiàn)人物形象和再現(xiàn)原文風(fēng)格,從而得到成功的譯作。
[Abstract]:"Border City" is the masterpiece of Beijing novelist Shen Congwen, which is praised as "the purest novel text in the history of modern literature" and "the pinnacle of Chinese modern literature pastoral legends". It has been translated into 13 languages and published in more than forty countries around the world. At present, there are four English versions, of which Yang Xianyi and Jin Jiefu's first one-line version are the most concerned. In 2009, Yilin Publishing House published the bilingual version of Yang's "Border Town". Yang's translation is faithful to the original text and truthfully conveys Chinese culture, which has high research value and guiding significance. Therefore, this thesis will take this translation of the Young couple as the research object. Most scholars at home and abroad study Yang's translation, but they mainly focus on translation aesthetics, translator subjectivity and functional equivalence, but they do not study from register theory. Register theory was put forward by London School and originated from English contextualism. Now it is an important content of Halliday's functional language thought of English linguist. Halliday points out that the register consists of a variety of contextual features, especially the discourse field, the linguistic features of the tone of the text and the style of the text, that is, the field, tenor and style. The field refers to the activities engaged in by the discourse participants; the tenor refers to the nature of the participants, the social roles and the communication relations between them; and the language refers to the channels and media of language communication. From the perspective of register theory, this thesis will analyze the register identification of Yang's translation in the phonetic, lexical, sentence and paragraph levels from the perspective of register theory, respectively, from the three variables of register field, tenor and form. This paper discusses whether the translation reproduces the register features of the original text so as to reproduce the image of the characters and the style of the original text. By analyzing the description of the characters' appearance, psychology, action and environment in the translation of "Border City" from the perspective of language field, it is found that it reproduces the register of the original text and thus reproduces the story plot of the original text. From the perspective of tenor, the author analyzes the three groups of dialogues in the translation, and finds that they reproduce the social status and relationship of the characters, thus reproducing the images of the characters. This paper analyzes the written and spoken language of this translation from the perspective of language style, and finds that it reproduces the register of the original text, thus reproducing the writing style of the original. Based on this, this paper attempts to point out that in the process of translation, the translator can identify the register and grasp the field, tenor and form, which can effectively reproduce the character image and the original style in the translation, and then obtain the successful translation.
