【摘要】：加拿大長老會來華傳教士季理斐將英國女作家格鐵夫人(Mrs.Margaret S.Gatty,1809-1837)的《自然寓言集》(Parables from Nature)的第二集譯為漢語,題為《和聲鳴盛》。季理斐的譯文在保留寓言故事的生動性的同時,也適時傳達了基督教教義。來華傳教士這個翻譯群體具有獨特性,翻譯外文書籍時與原文作者語言系統(tǒng)文化背景相通,理解較為貼切;又有著豐富的中國文化積累和中國助手的幫助,能夠得心應手地進行翻譯活動。為了實現(xiàn)傳播教義的目的,他們不斷尋求出路,實現(xiàn)基督教與中國文化的交融,減少隔閡與排斥。本文主要以《和聲鳴盛》及其原文為主體,探究傳教士在譯介西方作品時翻譯與解讀所采取的方式方法,一方面是將外文翻譯為漢語時內(nèi)容上的增、刪、改;另一方面是將基督教教義與中國傳統(tǒng)文化的融合,進行互文性的解讀和闡釋。本文第一部分通過具體分析《和聲鳴盛》譯文與原文的不同之處,包括增加、刪減以及改動的部分,探究產(chǎn)生這些不同之處的原因。作者在翻譯中盡可能地保持文章原貌,盡量避免“失真”。然而,翻譯活動畢竟跨越了不同的地理文化環(huán)境,翻譯者的不同文化修養(yǎng)與知識儲備使得譯文與原文有所出入。第二部分細致分析譯文與中國傳統(tǒng)文學、文化的關(guān)聯(lián),以及基督教思想與中國傳統(tǒng)文化的交織融合。為了實現(xiàn)傳教目的,譯者需要在中國傳統(tǒng)文化中尋找契合點,支持自己的宗教思想,符合中國民眾的傳統(tǒng)思維與接受心理。第三部分總結(jié)季理斐作為傳教士在向中國譯介西方文學作品時采取的諸多嘗試與努力,迎合中國讀者文化習慣,對中國傳統(tǒng)文化加以理解與運用,進而得到傳教士文化傳播的總體路徑方向。
