媚俗:大眾文化研究的關(guān)鍵詞考察

【摘要】: “媚俗”(kitsch)是一個經(jīng)常出現(xiàn)在當(dāng)代文化批評與文化研究中的“關(guān)鍵詞”(key word),一般是作為貶義詞來使用的。在中國,媚俗成為文化批評的重要術(shù)語進入公眾視野是在二十世紀八十年代末,它的高頻使用并迅速流行則是在九十年代,隨著消費文化的興起而濫觴。通過對這個關(guān)鍵詞內(nèi)在涵義的考察,我們可以一窺當(dāng)代中國文化思潮的變遷,特別是批評界對中國大眾文化的暖昧態(tài)度及其內(nèi)在原因。 本文主要從四個角度對“媚俗”一詞進行分析:一是從辭源學(xué)角度追溯該詞在中西語言中的基本含義和用法,梳理其意義的演變過程,并辨析當(dāng)前文化批評界對這個詞的不同使用,論證文化批評關(guān)鍵詞與社會實現(xiàn)之間的緊密聯(lián)系和相互作用。二是追溯媚俗現(xiàn)象的緣起,厘清媚俗現(xiàn)象與現(xiàn)代性尤其是浪漫主義的關(guān)系。三是論證媚俗現(xiàn)象出現(xiàn)的合理性和必然性,深入理解該詞的復(fù)雜性,避免簡單的“貶義化”態(tài)度。四是總結(jié)媚俗一詞對于我們認識大眾文化的意義和價值,以及這個詞對當(dāng)下文化研究、文化批評的啟示。 具體來說,本文主要從以下幾個方面來展開論述: 一、對“媚俗”的一般理解是指審美或作品的壞趣味、缺乏品位。但考察該詞的中西詞源,可以看到其含義頗為復(fù)雜,指涉甚廣。因此,需要對該詞的中西詞源加以追溯,從而才能了解該詞在當(dāng)下的具體用法及問題。 二、媚俗現(xiàn)象的出現(xiàn)與德國浪漫主義緊密相關(guān),應(yīng)該說,從它的產(chǎn)生就和大眾文化結(jié)下了不解之緣。 三、媚俗是大眾文化的本質(zhì),二者的聯(lián)系是有機的,從某種意義上說,理解了媚俗,也就理解了大眾文化。媚俗現(xiàn)象與現(xiàn)代大眾社會的出現(xiàn)密切相關(guān),必須辨清媚俗現(xiàn)象的社會的和心理的成因。 四、不同于習(xí)以為常的對于媚俗的批判和否定態(tài)度,其實一直還有另外一種聲音,這種聲音認為,對于社會發(fā)展和人類需要來說,媚俗有其合理性和必然性。尤其在后現(xiàn)代社會,當(dāng)后現(xiàn)代主義對高雅文化和大眾文化界限的加以了消融之后,使得我們對媚俗文化的批評常常陷入一種兩難。這也使我們有機會對“媚俗”一詞有了更多的了解和更深入的思考。 五、進一步,通過對媚俗的這兩種態(tài)度和判斷的辨證分析,我們可以清晰地看到媚俗的悖論和媚俗的自反性問題。而這種矛盾有利于我們辯證地思考大眾文化的價值和不足,也有利于我們認識該詞對中國當(dāng)下的文化研究、文化批評的意義。 本文主要循著雷蒙·威廉斯的方法,對文化研究和批評的關(guān)鍵詞進行梳理和研究。概念、術(shù)語是批評和研究的基石,尤其是對于具有強烈的批判性和實踐性品格的文化研究來說更是意義重大,下工夫厘清大眾文化研究中的關(guān)鍵概念應(yīng)該說是大眾文化研究的基礎(chǔ),這也許也正是本文的方法論意義所在。
[Abstract]:"kitsch" (kitsch) is a "key word" that is often used in contemporary cultural criticism and cultural studies. (key word), is generally used as a derogatory term. In China, kitsch became an important term of cultural criticism came into public view in the late 1980s, its high frequency use and rapid popularity in the 1990s, with the rise of consumer culture and began. Through the study of the inner meaning of this key word, we can have a glimpse of the change of contemporary Chinese cultural trend of thought, especially the negative attitude of critics towards Chinese popular culture and its internal reasons. This paper mainly analyzes the word "kitsch" from four angles: first, it traces the basic meaning and usage of the word in Chinese and Western languages from the perspective of etymology, and combs the evolution of its meaning. It also analyzes the different use of the word in the current cultural criticism, and demonstrates the close relationship and interaction between the key words of cultural criticism and social realization. Second, trace the origin of kitsch phenomenon and clarify the relationship between kitsch phenomenon and modernity, especially romanticism. The third is to demonstrate the rationality and inevitability of the phenomenon of kitsch, to understand the complexity of the word, and to avoid a simple "derogatory" attitude. The fourth is to summarize the significance and value of the word kitsch to our understanding of popular culture, as well as its enlightenment to the study of contemporary culture and cultural criticism. Specifically, this paper mainly discusses the following aspects: first, the general understanding of "kitsch" refers to the aesthetic or the work of bad taste, lack of taste. However, by examining the etymology of the word, we can see that its meaning is quite complex and refers to a wide range. Therefore, it is necessary to trace the Chinese and western etymology of the word in order to understand its specific usage and problems. Secondly, the phenomenon of kitsch is closely related to German Romanticism. Third, kitsch is the essence of popular culture, and the relationship between them is organic. In a sense, understanding kitsch means understanding popular culture. The phenomenon of kitsch is closely related to the emergence of modern mass society. Fourth, different from the usual attitude of criticism and negation of kitsch, there has always been another voice, which holds that kitsch has its rationality and inevitability for the development of society and the needs of human beings. Especially in the post-modern society, when postmodernism melts the boundaries of elegant culture and popular culture, our criticism of vulgar culture is often caught in a dilemma. This also gives us an opportunity to have a better understanding of the word "kitsch" and to think more deeply about it. Fifthly, through the dialectical analysis of the two attitudes and judgments of kitsch, we can clearly see the paradox of kitsch and the reflexivity of kitsch. This contradiction helps us to think dialectically about the value and deficiency of popular culture, and also helps us to understand the significance of the word to the cultural research and cultural criticism in China. Based on Raymond Williams' method, this paper combs and studies the key words of cultural research and criticism. Concepts, terms are the cornerstone of criticism and research, especially for cultural studies with strong critical and practical qualities, To clarify the key concepts in the study of popular culture should be said to be the basis of the study of popular culture, which may be the methodological significance of this paper.
