超越懷舊:論《故園重游》中的傳統(tǒng)觀

伊夫林·沃是英國現(xiàn)代最為重要的小說家之一。在其眾多代表作中,《故園重游》是最暢銷的一部,它也代表了沃創(chuàng)作的轉(zhuǎn)折。不同于他早期的諷刺小說,這部作品的調(diào)子變得嚴(yán)肅,一貫的冷嘲熱諷被懷戀往昔的浪漫情懷所取代!豆蕡@重游》以第一人稱自述,由主人公查爾斯·賴德的回憶展現(xiàn)出來,描寫了二戰(zhàn)爆發(fā)前他與倫敦近郊布賴茲赫德莊園里一個(gè)信奉天主教的貴族家庭馬奇梅因一家相處的經(jīng)歷,回憶當(dāng)中流露出對(duì)英國過往歲月的深刻懷念。該小說曾經(jīng)的相關(guān)研究大多停留在“懷舊”表層,未關(guān)注小說主人公在態(tài)度上經(jīng)歷了從沉湎過去到回歸當(dāng)下、由遁世到入世的變化,且在這一過程中于思想深處對(duì)傳統(tǒng)有了新的認(rèn)知——對(duì)過去的傳統(tǒng)除了肯定,又進(jìn)而發(fā)掘到它對(duì)當(dāng)下現(xiàn)實(shí)改造的積極作用。因此本文以小說主人公賴德為主要案例,旨在通過揭露賴德對(duì)懷舊情懷的超越,從他在追憶過往的反思中對(duì)本民族相關(guān)文化傳統(tǒng)的認(rèn)知來探究小說中的傳統(tǒng)觀。本文在文本細(xì)讀的基礎(chǔ)上并結(jié)合相關(guān)理論,以賴德的情感轉(zhuǎn)變?yōu)榫性邏輯,從關(guān)注文化傳承的角度來研究《故園重游》中的傳統(tǒng)觀,于傳統(tǒng)與現(xiàn)代融合的框架中依次分析:小說中所向往的過去文化語境下的傳統(tǒng);現(xiàn)實(shí)中的現(xiàn)代性困境;傳統(tǒng)被帶到現(xiàn)代情境中延續(xù)發(fā)展的原...
