約翰·巴思(1930—)是當(dāng)代著名的美國(guó)作家、批評(píng)家和文學(xué)理論家。其作品在二戰(zhàn)以來(lái)的文學(xué)中占有重要地位,尤其是在20世紀(jì)后半葉的后現(xiàn)代文學(xué)運(yùn)動(dòng)中處于中心位置。他的文學(xué)理論“枯竭的文學(xué)”和“有所補(bǔ)益的文學(xué)”在美國(guó)乃至世界文學(xué)界都產(chǎn)生了廣泛的影響,他的文學(xué)洞見與觀點(diǎn)為批評(píng)家們提供了重要的指導(dǎo)。巴思融故事創(chuàng)造、敘事實(shí)驗(yàn)和文學(xué)批評(píng)意識(shí)于一體,其創(chuàng)作既是故事系列的延續(xù),流露出其獨(dú)特的創(chuàng)作美學(xué)思想,又表達(dá)了他對(duì)當(dāng)代文學(xué)發(fā)展傾向的關(guān)注。然而,幾乎所有的批評(píng)家都認(rèn)為巴思是一位典型的后現(xiàn)代作家,而忽略了他的現(xiàn)實(shí)主義書寫與他對(duì)現(xiàn)代主義創(chuàng)作的獨(dú)特見解。巴思作品最突出的特點(diǎn)是藝術(shù)創(chuàng)新與多重主題并存。他僅僅以馬里蘭州東海岸的切薩皮克海灣為主要背景,就勾勒了作品的多維敘事、新的文學(xué)聲調(diào)和美學(xué)技法。筆者以20世紀(jì)后半葉及21世紀(jì)初的文學(xué)狀況為研究背景,將巴思三個(gè)不同時(shí)期的六部代表著作為研究對(duì)象,以存在主義、后現(xiàn)代元小說(shuō)和神話敘事、以及新現(xiàn)實(shí)主義為研究視角,關(guān)注大部分批評(píng)家尚未重視的文學(xué)生成機(jī)制,闡釋巴思的美學(xué)創(chuàng)作思想,多視角展示巴思的文學(xué)創(chuàng)作探索之路。通過(guò)研究巴思創(chuàng)作風(fēng)格的變化,筆者發(fā)現(xiàn)巴思的創(chuàng)作生涯可以分為三個(gè)時(shí)...
