晚清理學(xué)視野下的英國殖民秩序——以《禮記質(zhì)疑》與《倫敦與巴黎日記》為中心的探討

【摘要】:郭嵩燾對英國殖民秩序的看法與他的天理觀有內(nèi)在關(guān)聯(lián)。作為晚清理學(xué)復(fù)興的重要人物,郭嵩燾贊同以萬物一氣論為基礎(chǔ)的天理秩序,物與人各有其分,不可逾越。他以此觀察世界,認(rèn)為西方科學(xué)與文明均為陽氣的發(fā)舒,英國的殖民活動(dòng)則體現(xiàn)了仁養(yǎng)之德,符合天道。因此殖民地人民如同英國國內(nèi)的下層階級,只是被動(dòng)的教養(yǎng)對象。這些觀點(diǎn)體現(xiàn)了以天理等級制為基礎(chǔ)的中華主義與19世紀(jì)殖民論的相通之處,并多少為郭嵩燾的清流批評者所共享。二者世界觀的類似與對西方態(tài)度的不同,則提示了晚清理學(xué)回應(yīng)西方思想挑戰(zhàn)的可能性與限度。
[Abstract]:Guo Songtao's view of the British colonial order was intrinsically related to his view of nature. As an important figure in the revival of Neo-Confucianism in the late Qing Dynasty, Guo Songtao agreed with the natural order based on the theory of one breath of all things, and that things and people had their own parts. He observed the world in such a way that Western science and civilization were both positive, and that British colonization embodied benevolence and virtue in keeping with Heaven. Therefore, the colonial people were like the lower classes of Britain. Only passive upbringing. These views reflect the similarities between Sinicism based on the hierarchy of Heaven and the colonial theory in 19th century. The similarity between the world outlook of Guo Songtao and his attitude to the West suggests the possibility and limitation of Neo-Confucianism in responding to the challenge of Western thought in the late Qing Dynasty.
