本文主要研究D·劉易斯的可能世界理論，即模態(tài)實(shí)在論。粗略地說(shuō)就是我們的世界只是眾多世界之一，居住在這個(gè)世界的我們只是處于所有世界的所有居民者中的少數(shù)的本體理論�？赡苁澜绺拍羁梢宰匪莸饺R布尼茨，這概念在可能世界語(yǔ)義學(xué)誕生之后得到更為廣泛的運(yùn)用，但實(shí)際中的可能世界究竟是什么，邏輯學(xué)家卻未有一致的看法。作為模態(tài)實(shí)在論的代表，劉易斯認(rèn)為可能世界和我們的世界——即“我和我周圍的環(huán)境”是同一類的，因此有相同的本體地位。 本文主體分為四個(gè)部分。第一部分介紹了模態(tài)實(shí)在論產(chǎn)生的背景，從探索模態(tài)實(shí)在論的根開(kāi)始，說(shuō)明了可能世界理論的來(lái)源和模態(tài)語(yǔ)義學(xué)中的應(yīng)用。第二部分闡述了模態(tài)實(shí)在論的基本觀點(diǎn)。第三部分則闡述了對(duì)模態(tài)實(shí)在論的詰難和劉易斯的辯護(hù)。在第四部分，本文認(rèn)為模態(tài)實(shí)在論實(shí)際上是一種替代的框架，并對(duì)什么是可能世界提出了自己的看法。
The paper is mainly to study David Lewis" possible world theory- Modal Realism: the ontological doctrine that our world is but one of a plurality of worlds, and that we who inhabit this world are only a few out of all the inhabitants of all the worlds. The conception of "possible world" can be retraced to Leibniz .It is becoming more widely used after the birth of possible world semantics, but people do not share the same view on what possible world is. David Lewis thinks that possible world is the same kind as our world?" I and my all surroundings". So it has the same ontology status as the actual world.This paper can be divided into four parts. The first part introduces the background of Modal Realism. Beginning by inspecting the root of Modal Realism, it illuminates the source of possible world theory and the application of modal semantics. The second part illustrates the basic viewpoints of Modal Realism. The third part expounds the objections and arguments to Modal Realism. In the fourth part, the paper shows that Modal Realism is actually a substitute frame, and it also explores what possible world means in our daily language.
