[Abstract]:By Alexander Solzhenitsyn: the title of the first lap is from Dante's Divine Comedy. Divine Comedy divides Hell into nine laps and the first lap is the best. The writer likened it to a special prison in the Soviet Union. Since the 1930s, the Soviet Union has set up scientific research institutions consisting of scientific and technological personnel serving sentences, called "special prisons", with material benefits superior to those of reform-through-labour camps. There, a group of scientists and prisoners were engaged in various research projects to monitor society. They have the same home, life imprisonment. They have no personal freedom, are deprived of all rights, including love and the power to be loved, and their hearts are extremely distorted.
