[Abstract]:Researchers at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands have developed a magical cement used to pave roads that automatically repair cracks. The secret of magic cement lies in the addition of calcium lactate and a bacterium found in rocks around active volcanoes and alkali lakes. When the cement cracks seep into the water, the bacteria are "awakened" and then "eaten" by calcium lactate, secreting limestone that can repair the cracks, taking about three weeks.
