In order to develop the pulsating high gradient magnetic separation technology, a type of labo-ratory pulsating high gradient magnetic separator (PHGMS) has been manufactured. Experiments ofits separating performance were carried out. They show that PHGMS can significantly increase thegrade of magnetic product and avoid the matrix block. The characteristic curve of the pulsatingfluid was measured and a formula for estimating the grade of the magnetic product of PHGMS wasestablished.

The basis of the modification was discussed,and the way to further improve the new technology was proposed.
