[Abstract]:In 2010-2011, when China, which produces 97 percent of the world's rare earths, decided to cut its export quotas, the price of rare earths soared. Since then, Lynas and Molycorp producers in Australia and California have hoped to restore rare earth production to break China's monopoly. Coupled with the fact that rare earth users have sought to make more efficient use of the metal, such as the introduction of low or no rare earth formulations by suppliers of FCC catalysts and promoters, the price of rare earths has been significantly reduced.
