伍綺詩(Celeste Ng)是當代美國華裔文壇繼湯亭亭、譚恩美、黃玉雪等知名女作家之后最具代表性的華裔作家之一。華人與美國人的雙重身份賦予了伍綺詩對華裔家庭、文化身份等問題獨特的視角。《無聲告白》(Everything I never Told You)是伍綺詩耗時6年完成的第一本長篇小說,也是首部重點關(guān)注跨族裔華裔美國家庭的文學作品。自2014年問世以來,該作品受到了海內(nèi)外的廣泛關(guān)注與高度好評,2014年以最高銷量被評選為2014年亞馬遜年度最佳書籍(英文類書籍)。小說以小女兒莉迪亞(Lydia)的“離奇失蹤”為切入點,探討了華裔家庭在美國社會中所遭受的種種困境,反映了華裔家庭在美國主流社會中格格不入的尷尬地位。伍綺詩試圖通過此作讓華裔所遭受的痛苦發(fā)出聲音。小說婉轉(zhuǎn)樸實的語言、細膩深入的心理刻畫、緊湊清晰的劇情設置以及獨特的文化背景吸引了眾多學者的關(guān)注。他們分別從身份認同、女性身份、敘事策略等角度進行過探討,但是鮮有人從創(chuàng)傷的角度進行研究。本文基于創(chuàng)傷理論擬對該小說文本進行分析。本文首先探討《無聲告白》中這個華裔家庭遭受的心理及情感創(chuàng)傷。其次分析家庭創(chuàng)傷產(chǎn)生的原因,包括華裔在美國主流社會中受到的歧視與排擠、父權(quán)制社會下女性角色邊緣化、家庭中的種種矛盾等等。筆者認為家庭創(chuàng)傷外因來源于社會大環(huán)境的影響,而內(nèi)因則來自于家庭成員的相互作用。最后本文探討了文中家庭創(chuàng)傷痊愈的過程。通過對《無聲告白》中華裔家庭的創(chuàng)傷癥狀、原因及痊愈過程的分析,本文試圖揭露美國主流社會對華裔及華裔家庭的排擠、歧視及造成的心理創(chuàng)傷。著名心理學家朱迪思·赫爾曼(Judith Herman)指出受創(chuàng)者需要建立更加親密、和諧的關(guān)系。對于華裔家庭來說,心理創(chuàng)傷是社會壓力、家庭矛盾的外在反應。只有家庭成員之間建立和諧關(guān)系、直面?zhèn)椿貞?才能順利走出創(chuàng)傷陰霾,建立和諧共處的家庭和社會。這是作者伍綺詩寄予小說的美好展望,也是筆者的初衷!
