《兔子歸來》中兔子的身份危機和身份重建

【摘要】：《兔子歸來》是美國當代小說家約翰·厄普代克(John Updike 1932-2009)最富盛名的兔子系列長篇小說的第二部。小說于1971年面世,雖然故事以主人公哈里的日常生活為主線,但作品背景卻相當寬泛,涉及六十年代種種重大社會事件如越南戰(zhàn)爭、反文化運動、黑人民權運動、女權運動等,展現了一幅微觀而細致的戰(zhàn)后美國圖景。厄普代克以小見大,著重描繪了哈里所經歷的種種矛盾沖突和由此帶來的困境與危機,而哈里也成為大多數美國民眾的代言人。主人公哈里在這部小說中成長變化最大,與之相關的研究和解讀卻并不及第一、三部。本文主要考察哈里在動蕩不安的年代中面臨的身份危機。論文首先對《兔子歸來》的研究現狀做了梳理,闡釋和界定了身份這個概念,選取了最能表現兔子身份危機的三個方面分三章進行討論。第一章論述在一個女性發(fā)聲的時代,詹尼斯的獨立與出走使哈里在家庭中逐漸失去話語權,哈里的家長地位受到威脅,而哈里也迎頭反擊,重得權利。第二章進而探討哈里在種族認知和國家意識兩方面面臨的身份危機,并討論他如何度過危機,重新確立身份。第三章則聚焦于哈里的房產對于他身份的重要性,房子最終燒毀卻也化“危”為“機”。簡而言之,動蕩復雜的社會背景深刻影響了個人的身份認同,哈里作為代表人物,盡管接二連三遭受身份危機,卻在危機中成長,以更客觀理性的眼光審視美國社會種種二元對立的力量如男女、黑白、上下層階級等,重新確立自己的身份地位,更好地在社會立足。兔子的困境也反映著美國的困境。論文試圖彌補《兔子歸來》研究成果不全不多的遺憾,希望能夠幫助讀者更好地理解主人公的境遇以及整部小說。
[Abstract]:The return of the Rabbit is the second installment of the most famous rabbit series by contemporary American novelist John Updike, 1932-2009. The novel was published in 1971. Although the story takes Harry's daily life as the main line, the background of the novel is quite broad, covering such major social events as the Vietnam War, the anti-cultural movement, the black civil rights movement, the feminist movement, and so on in the 1960s. It shows a microscopic and detailed picture of the United States after the war. Updike looks at the whole in a small part, focusing on the contradictions and conflicts that Harry has experienced and the difficulties and crises that have caused him, and Harry has become the voice of the majority of the American people. Harry, the protagonist, grew up and changed the most in this novel. This paper examines Harry's identity crisis in a turbulent age. In this paper, the present research situation of Rabbit's return is first reviewed, the concept of identity is explained and defined, and the three aspects that can best represent rabbit's identity crisis are discussed in three chapters. The first chapter discusses that in the era of female voice, Janice's independence and departure gradually made Harry lose his right of speech in the family, Harry's parental status was threatened, and Harry fought back head-on and regained his rights. The second chapter discusses Harry's identity crisis in both racial cognition and national consciousness, and discusses how he can survive the crisis and re-establish his identity. The third chapter focuses on the importance of Harry's property to his identity. In short, the tumultuous and complex social context has profoundly influenced the identity of individuals, and Harry, as a representative character, has grown up in crisis, despite one identity crisis after another. This paper examines the dualistic forces of American society, such as men and women, black and white, upper and lower classes, with a more objective and rational view, so as to re-establish one's own status and establish a better foothold in the society. The rabbit's plight also reflects the American dilemma. The paper tries to make up for the regret that the research results of Rabbit return are not all enough, hoping to help readers better understand the situation of the protagonist and the whole novel.
