20世紀90年代,蘇珊·巴斯奈特和安德烈·勒費弗爾提出了翻譯研究的“文化轉(zhuǎn)向”,為翻譯研究開拓了一片新領(lǐng)域。翻譯的“文化價值觀”便逐漸成為翻譯研究關(guān)注的焦點之一。通過對文化的不同類型——物質(zhì)文化、行為文化和意識文化的劃分,闡明作為文化本質(zhì)的意識文化信息在翻譯中的重要地位與作用,尤其對于文化傳播和文化交流的重要作用。 本文依據(jù)翻譯理論研究中文化學派中的代表人物蘇珊·巴斯奈特以及安德魯·勒菲維爾的文化翻譯觀,通過對理雅各和辜鴻銘對于《論語》的兩個譯本中個案的意識文化信息的傳譯進行分析,著重探討了如下兩個問題:翻譯主體的性格氣質(zhì)和人生態(tài)度取向等意識形態(tài),詩學以及贊助人對意識文化信息的選擇與傳譯策略所起的作用及影響;翻譯中意識文化信息傳譯的特點及應(yīng)該遵循的原則和方法等。 通過對大量語料的具體分析,作者得出的結(jié)論是:理雅各和辜鴻銘對于《論語》的兩個譯本,出現(xiàn)不盡相同的體現(xiàn),主要是由于兩位譯者作為譯者主體性所傳達的意識文化信息存在著差異,以及意識形態(tài)、詩學和贊助人對翻譯策略的影響。這不僅對提高典籍的譯文質(zhì)量,而且對進一步研究中國典籍的翻譯具有一定的學術(shù)價值。
