工程類學(xué)術(shù)語(yǔ)篇中的元話語(yǔ)研究

【摘要】:近年來(lái),元話語(yǔ)已經(jīng)成為語(yǔ)言學(xué)及應(yīng)用語(yǔ)言學(xué)各個(gè)領(lǐng)域研究的熱點(diǎn)話題。元話語(yǔ)在作者和讀者交流中發(fā)揮著非常重要的作用,許多研究者從不同視角出發(fā)或采用不同研究方法對(duì)學(xué)術(shù)語(yǔ)篇中的元話語(yǔ)進(jìn)行細(xì)致的討論分析(Hyland,1998,2005,2012;Li,Xiuming,2007,2011;GillaertsVelde,2010;Bruce,2010;Lin,2015;HuCao,2015;Kawase,2015;Bal-Gezegin,2016))。然而,對(duì)工程類學(xué)術(shù)語(yǔ)篇中的元話語(yǔ)研究相對(duì)較少。因此,本文以Hyland(2005)的元話語(yǔ)分類模式為理論框架,對(duì)工程類學(xué)術(shù)語(yǔ)篇中的元話語(yǔ)進(jìn)行研究,旨在回答以下三個(gè)問(wèn)題:(1)工程類學(xué)術(shù)語(yǔ)篇中元話語(yǔ)的整體分布特點(diǎn)是什么?(2)工程類學(xué)術(shù)語(yǔ)篇中交際性元話語(yǔ)子類別的分布特點(diǎn)是什么?(3)工程類學(xué)術(shù)語(yǔ)篇中互動(dòng)性元話語(yǔ)子類別的分布特點(diǎn)是什么?為了回答以上三個(gè)問(wèn)題,本文從工程類六種核心期刊上按照分層抽樣的方法抽取了60篇學(xué)術(shù)論文(2013年-2014年)。文章來(lái)自工程類三個(gè)學(xué)科,即機(jī)械工程、土木工程和材料工程,隨后運(yùn)用語(yǔ)料庫(kù)檢索軟件AntConc 3.4.3對(duì)元話語(yǔ)依次進(jìn)行檢索,采用定量研究方法統(tǒng)計(jì)出每個(gè)元話語(yǔ)在語(yǔ)篇中的分布頻數(shù)及頻率,通過(guò)定性方法來(lái)分析元話語(yǔ)分布的異同及原因。通過(guò)對(duì)語(yǔ)料的分析,得出以下結(jié)論:第一,工程類學(xué)術(shù)語(yǔ)篇中,交際性元話語(yǔ)出現(xiàn)的頻次遠(yuǎn)遠(yuǎn)高于互動(dòng)性元話語(yǔ)。這可能是因?yàn)榻浑H類元話語(yǔ)的主要功能在于組織語(yǔ)篇,從而引導(dǎo)讀者閱讀。第二,在交際性元話語(yǔ)中,過(guò)渡標(biāo)記語(yǔ)出現(xiàn)頻次最高,這與其主要功能有直接關(guān)系,主要是因?yàn)樽髡呦胍赃B貫的方式組織語(yǔ)篇來(lái)引導(dǎo)讀者。在互動(dòng)性元話語(yǔ)中,模糊限制語(yǔ)出現(xiàn)的頻率最高,主要是因?yàn)楫?dāng)作者表述其學(xué)術(shù)成果時(shí),模糊限制語(yǔ)可以減少對(duì)別人的一些潛在的傷害。第三,由于工程領(lǐng)域?qū)W科間的差異性,不同學(xué)科學(xué)術(shù)論文中元話語(yǔ)的使用也存在差異。研究發(fā)現(xiàn),土木工程學(xué)科研究論文的作者使用元話語(yǔ)最多,而材料工程學(xué)科領(lǐng)域研究論文的作者使用元話語(yǔ)相對(duì)較少。本研究對(duì)工程類學(xué)術(shù)語(yǔ)篇中元話語(yǔ)的使用進(jìn)行了細(xì)致考察,其結(jié)果可為元話語(yǔ)研究提供一定啟示。同時(shí),本研究也可以幫助英語(yǔ)學(xué)習(xí)者加強(qiáng)其使用元話語(yǔ)進(jìn)行語(yǔ)篇組織的意識(shí),也可以幫助作者通過(guò)學(xué)習(xí)使用正確的元話語(yǔ)來(lái)促進(jìn)與讀者的有效交流。
[Abstract]:In recent years, meta-discourse has become a hot topic in various fields of linguistics and applied linguistics. Meta-discourse plays a very important role in the communication between authors and readers. Many researchers discuss and analyze meta discourse in academic discourse from different perspectives or using different research methods. However, there is relatively little research on meta discourse in engineering academic discourse. Therefore, this thesis takes the meta-discourse classification model of Hylandan 2005 as the theoretical framework to study the meta-discourse in engineering academic discourse. The purpose of this paper is to answer the following three questions: (1) what are the overall distribution characteristics of meta discourse in engineering academic discourses? (2) what are the distributional characteristics of communicative meta discourse subcategories in engineering academic discourses? (3) interactivity in engineering academic discourses What are the distribution characteristics of meta discourse subcategories? In order to answer the above three questions, 60 academic papers were collected from six core journals of engineering according to stratified sampling (2013-2014). This paper comes from three disciplines of engineering, namely, mechanical engineering, civil engineering and material engineering, and then uses the corpus retrieval software AntConc 3.4.3 to retrieve meta discourse in turn. The frequency and frequency of each meta utterance in discourse are analyzed by quantitative analysis. The differences and similarities of meta discourse distribution and its reasons are analyzed by qualitative method. Through the analysis of the corpus, the following conclusions are drawn: first, the frequency of communicative meta-discourse in engineering academic discourse is much higher than that of interactive meta-discourse. This may be because the main function of communicative meta-discourse is to organize discourse to guide readers to read. Secondly, in communicative meta utterances, transitional markers appear most frequently, which is directly related to their main functions, mainly because the author wants to organize the text in a coherent way to guide the readers. In interactive meta utterances, hedges appear most frequently, mainly because when the author expresses his academic achievements, hedges can reduce some potential harm to others. Thirdly, due to the differences between disciplines in engineering, there are differences in the use of meta-discourse in academic papers of different disciplines. It is found that the authors of civil engineering research papers use the most meta-discourse, while those in the field of material engineering use less meta-discourse. This study makes a detailed study of the use of meta discourse in engineering academic discourse, and the results can provide some enlightenment for meta discourse research. At the same time, the present study can help English learners to strengthen their awareness of the use of meta-discourse for discourse organization, and to facilitate effective communication with readers by learning to use the correct meta-discourse.
