沖突與融合—喬治·艾略特三部作品的生態(tài)批評研究

在眾多維多利亞時代小說家中,喬治·艾略特(1819—1880)是對社會敏銳觀察,冷靜思考的作家之一。她不僅是一位作家,更是一位將社會現(xiàn)實置于哲學(xué)中深度審視,并反觀于宗教、社會和傳統(tǒng)的哲學(xué)家。細(xì)膩深刻的心理刻畫使她的小說融入了哲學(xué)和心理學(xué)的深層探究。她筆下的主人公常因懷著超越環(huán)境的自我意識與感性沖擊而成為與主流格格不入的時代局外人。在情感與理智,道德與自我,傳統(tǒng)與超越的沖突中不停地掙扎,時而頓悟,時而迷失,時而超脫,時而屈服,種種人物的一生悲歌映射出維多利亞時代中早期顯明的個體矛盾與困惑。 鑒于維多利亞時代轉(zhuǎn)型期的特殊性,以及喬治·艾略特作品對于反映時代價值觀的重要性,本文試圖借助生態(tài)批評的方法對艾略特的三部早期作品:《亞當(dāng)·比德》、《弗洛斯河上的磨坊》及《織工馬南》分別進行關(guān)于自然生態(tài)、精神生態(tài)和社會生態(tài)的深層剖析,從其作品中探尋更多維多利亞時代工業(yè)化進程中個體、自然與社會的失衡狀態(tài)的寫照以及社會價值觀轉(zhuǎn)變的映像,以求從其哲學(xué)思想反觀當(dāng)下人類社會所面臨的種種生態(tài),精神困境。本文主體分為三大部分:《亞當(dāng)·比德》的分析側(cè)重于兩位男主人公對海蒂截然不同的態(tài)度。作者對海蒂的描寫多處采用物化方法...
