艾米莉·勃朗特是十九世紀英國最重要的小說家之一。她唯一的小說《呼嘯山莊》被公認為英國小說中最偉大的作品之一，在英國乃至世界文學史上占有重要的地位。因其內(nèi)涵豐富精深，研究者對它的闡釋層出不窮。 以完全對立的兩位男主人公和兩座農(nóng)莊為代表，《呼嘯山莊》向人們展示了各種美丑形態(tài)對照�？梢哉f，小說中的人物、環(huán)境和情節(jié)都形成了鮮明的對照。本文運用霍夫斯達德關于美的理論，嘗試探討作品中這三方面的美丑形態(tài)對照。 希斯克厲夫和埃德加·林敦是兩個完全不同的人物，主要體現(xiàn)在形體、體能、心智和社會觀念等方面。他們代表著兩種截然不同的力量，因?qū)ε魅斯珓P瑟琳的不同形式的愛而糾葛在一起�；诿莱蟮亩x，希斯克厲夫是力量與激情的化身，洋溢著野性的生命力與激情；而冷冰冰了無生機的林敦則蒼白軟弱，死氣沉沉。 呼嘯山莊和畫眉農(nóng)莊的自然環(huán)境和社會環(huán)境形成小說中的又一顯著的美丑對照。它們代表著對立的兩個世界和價值體系，即充滿生機的本土文明和令人壓抑的基督教文明。環(huán)境的這種雙重性使作品的意義更加深厚。沒有這一對照，小說將會平淡很多。 《呼嘯山莊》的雙重故事情節(jié)跌宕...
