[Abstract]:Romanticism was the first period of urbanization in literature in the United States at the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the nineteenth century. Urbanization has created social problems for the city, such as population inflation, disparity between the rich and the poor, and ethnic and cultural conflicts. American writers living in this period have attached great concern to the city of New York, and they have created a large number of literary works reflecting all aspects of urban life in response to different aspects of New York. Has created a clear and perceptible image of the city of New York. This paper makes a deep analysis of the New York city writing in this period from five aspects, and tries to restore a complete image of New York in the Romantic period. The introduction part reviews the research situation of New York City Literature at home and abroad, and summarizes the differences of scholars' attention, research methods and literary concepts. The research significance, object and methodology of this topic are put forward. The first chapter combs the history of the rise and change of New York City, and the writer's writing of New York City from unconscious, budding, developing to mature, and perceiving the overall relationship between New York City and literary creation. The second chapter analyzes in detail the peaceful and harmonious idyllic New York Dream in Irving's works of Washington, and the impact of the realistic thought of rejecting the modern material civilization of New York on this "beautiful dream". The second chapter gives a detailed analysis of the "beautiful dream" which is full of tranquillity and harmony in Washington Irving's works. The third chapter, from the perspective of Herman Melville, shows the image of New York's noisy, indulgent, decadent, lust-filled city, as well as the "nightmarish" evils and darkness that this image brings to the lower class of New York. The fourth chapter discusses the regional images of Barmennok, Brooklyn and Manhattan, mentioned in Walter Whitman's text, to his thoughts of real New York society, conveying Whitman's happiness, or expectations, Or the inspiration of New York's daydream. The conclusion part is based on the above text analysis, through showing the three writers in the same period created in different aspects of the New York image, combined with the writers mixed with the city experience and imagination, Summarize the research significance of "cities in the text".
