忠誠還是背叛——論庫柏《領(lǐng)航人》中的倫理兩難及其歷史隱喻

【摘要】：庫柏的第一部海洋小說《領(lǐng)航人》探討的一個主題是人物的倫理身份問題。小說中的男女主角均深陷個人與國家、個人與個人之間錯綜復(fù)雜的倫理關(guān)系網(wǎng)之中;因為忠誠或是背叛祖國而引起倫理身份的改變,從而使小說主角陷入倫理兩難的困境中。其實,小說對人物倫理身份問題的探討,是同美國獨立之前宗主國英國和北美殖民地復(fù)雜的倫理環(huán)境緊密聯(lián)系的,當(dāng)時殖民地人民也面臨著兩難的選擇:是繼續(xù)附屬于英國母體,還是脫離母國而獨立。因此,小說人物倫理兩難的實質(zhì),正是此歷史語境下殖民地人民面臨的身份問題的藝術(shù)寫照;小說人物倫理身份的確立,其本質(zhì)正是殖民地人民構(gòu)建美利堅民族身份的歷史隱喻。
[Abstract]:One of Cooper's first marine novels, the Pilgrimage, explores the ethical identity of the characters. The protagonists and heroines in the novel are deeply involved in the personal and state and the intricate ethical relationships between the individual and the individual, and the ethical identity of the protagonist is changed because of loyalty or betrayal of the motherland, which makes the protagonist of the novel fall into an ethical dilemma. In fact, the study of the ethical identity of characters in the novel is closely related to the complex ethical environment of the Suzerain, Britain, and the colonies of North America before the independence of the United States. Colonial peoples also faced a dilemma: whether to remain attached to the British mother or to become independent from their home country. Therefore, the essence of the ethical dilemma of the characters in the novel is the artistic portrayal of the identity problem faced by the colonial people in this historical context. The establishment of the ethical identity of the characters in novels is the historical metaphor for the colonial people to construct the national identity of the United States.
