論《美國在心中》中菲裔移民的個人身份追尋

【摘要】：卡洛斯·布洛桑(Carlos Bulosan,1913-1956)是一位20世紀(jì)40年代在美國文壇享有盛名的菲裔美國作家,是美國最重要的亞裔作家之一�！睹绹谛闹小�(America Is in the Heart: A Personal History,1946)是布洛桑的半自傳小說,曾被《展望》雜志評為美國最重要的50本作品之一,堪稱亞裔美國文學(xué)中的經(jīng)典。在這本書中,布洛桑立足于美國對菲律賓殖民統(tǒng)治時期“文化大雜糅”的背景中,以傳記小說的形式,敘述了主人公從菲律賓到美國經(jīng)過一系列的冒險經(jīng)歷,探尋自我身份的故事,揭示了美國霸權(quán)統(tǒng)治導(dǎo)致了菲律賓人民身份上的從屬地位之后,菲裔移民逐漸面臨被同化、被邊緣化的危險。本論文旨在分析小說中主人公怎樣在經(jīng)歷身份缺失、尋找身份、遭遇挫折之后,重建個人身份的過程。本文共分五章,詳細(xì)探討了《美國在心中》的身份追尋之路。 第一章為引言,分為兩個部分。第一部分主要介紹卡洛斯·布洛桑的生平以及主要作品、《美國在心中》的研究現(xiàn)狀；第二部分介紹了個人身份的定義。 第二章介紹了主人公自我身份的缺失。主人公一開始就出現(xiàn)了自我身份的缺失,家人的分離、賴以生存的土地被剝奪以及萬惡的教育體系的毒害都嚴(yán)重影響了個人身份的發(fā)展,但是直到自己在國內(nèi)外體驗(yàn)到了個人尊嚴(yán)被剝奪,主人公才體會到自己自我身份的缺失。 第三章分析了主人公尋找自我身份的主要障礙。主人公竭盡全力尋找自己在社會上的身份和位置,但由于殘酷的殖民政策、種族歧視與壓迫、傳統(tǒng)文化的丟失以及新的文化的排斥等問題最終導(dǎo)致他在尋找自我身份和社會地位時的迷失。 第四部分分析了主人公個人身份的重建。他提出要重新建構(gòu)一個以菲律賓民族文化為依托、吸取美國文化精華雜糅的文化背景；同時他試圖通過參加工人運(yùn)動、把寫作當(dāng)做自己的武器來構(gòu)建一個理想的烏托邦社會。雜糅的文化背景以及理想的烏托邦社會使主人公找到了自己的歸屬感、完成了個人身份的重建。 第五部分為論文的結(jié)論部分,指出主人公的個人身份追尋之路歷經(jīng)挫折,最終達(dá)到重建。作者還指出,我們對于卡洛斯·布洛桑的研究還有很大的空間。
[Abstract]:Carlos Bulosan,1913-1956 is a famous Filipino-American writer in the American literary world in the 1940s and one of the most important Asian American writers in the United States. It was rated as one of the 50 most important American works by Outlook magazine and a classic in Asian American literature. In this book, in the context of the "cultural hybridity" during the colonial rule of the United States over the Philippines, Bu Lobsang, in the form of a biographical novel, narrates the protagonist's adventures from the Philippines to the United States. The story of self-identity reveals that the Filipino immigrants are facing the danger of assimilation and marginalization after American hegemony led to the subordinate status of the Filipino people. The purpose of this thesis is to analyze how the protagonist in the novel reconstructs his personal identity after experiencing identity loss, seeking identity and experiencing setbacks. This article is divided into five chapters, and discusses in detail the way to pursue American identity. The first chapter is the introduction, which is divided into two parts. The first part mainly introduces Carlos BuLobsang's life and main works, the present situation of American in the heart, and the second part introduces the definition of personal identity. The second chapter introduces the lack of self-identity of the protagonist. The lack of self-identity, the separation of family members, the deprivation of the land on which he lives and the poison of a vicious education system have seriously affected the development of personal identity. However, the protagonist did not realize the lack of self-identity until he experienced the personal dignity at home and abroad. The third chapter analyzes the main obstacles of the protagonist seeking self-identity. The protagonist tries his best to find his social identity and position, but because of the cruel colonial policy, racial discrimination and oppression, The loss of traditional culture and the rejection of new culture lead to the loss of his self-identity and social status. The fourth part analyzes the reconstruction of the protagonist's personal identity. He proposed to re-construct a cultural background based on Filipino culture and absorb the essence of American culture. At the same time, he tried to construct an ideal utopian society by participating in the workers' movement and using writing as his weapon. The mixed cultural background and the ideal utopian society enable the protagonist to find his own sense of belonging and complete the reconstruction of his personal identity. The fifth part is the conclusion of the thesis, pointing out that the protagonist's personal identity pursuit has experienced setbacks and finally achieved reconstruction. The author also points out that we still have a lot of space for the study of Carlos BuLobsang.
