從圣經(jīng)原型理論解讀《人樹》

【摘要】:帕特里克·懷特是澳大利亞歷史上最杰出、最負(fù)盛名的作家之—。他生于澳大利亞本土,父母信奉英國國教。由于從小深受《圣經(jīng)》影響,懷特經(jīng)常在他作品中運(yùn)用宗教主題和信條來表達(dá)他特有的對生活的感悟。1955年帕特里克·懷特出版了他的長篇小說《人樹》,這也使他在全球范圍內(nèi)聲名鵲起。然而,迄今為止國內(nèi)外評論界對《人樹》的研究都局限在寫作技巧、異化主題和人物分析等方面,還從未有人從圣經(jīng)原型的角度出發(fā)來分析小說。因此本論文試著從圣經(jīng)原型的角度來探究這篇小說。圣經(jīng)原型的分析可以幫助讀者發(fā)現(xiàn)懷特創(chuàng)作《人樹》的真正意圖以及懷特本人的人生感悟,所以要想更好地讀懂小說和理解作者,必須首先要研讀小說中的圣經(jīng)原型。 本論文以諾斯諾普·弗萊的原型批評理論為基礎(chǔ),主要從人物塑造、意象和主題三個(gè)方面來分析《人樹》中的圣經(jīng)原型。首先,小說中的很多主要人物都隱喻性地來源于《圣經(jīng)》中的一些經(jīng)典人物,最明顯的當(dāng)屬小說的男女主人公斯坦·帕克和艾米·帕克來源于《圣經(jīng)》中的亞當(dāng)和夏娃,另外懷特還在小說中塑造了兩只“迷途的羔羊”—雷·帕克和塞爾瑪·帕克,以及兩個(gè)“撒旦”一湯姆·阿姆斯特朗和瑪?shù)铝。其?懷特在小說創(chuàng)作中大量使用了啟示性意象與惡魔意象,其中水、火和樹三種原型意象運(yùn)用的最為頻繁。最后,讀者們不難發(fā)現(xiàn)小說中還運(yùn)用了三種最常見的原型主題:“墮落”、“救贖”和“重生”。 通過運(yùn)用這些圣經(jīng)原型,懷特指出人類其實(shí)一直在重復(fù)著《圣經(jīng)》中的一些故事,洪水、大火以及生活中的其它苦難是設(shè)立在通往幸福道路上的障礙,一旦跨過這些障礙,人類的精神就會(huì)得到升華。在懷特眼中,生命的體驗(yàn)在于不斷探索和不斷認(rèn)識(shí),這個(gè)過程隨著人類的繁衍不息而代代延續(xù),永無終結(jié),而“簡單”和“謙卑”其實(shí)是人類生活的本質(zhì)。
[Abstract]:Patrick White was one of the greatest and most famous writers in Australian history. He was born in Australia and his parents were Anglican. White often uses religious themes and creeds in his works to express his unique perception of life. In 1955, Patrick White published his novel the Tree of Man, which made him famous all over the world. So far, the researches on the Tree of Man at home and abroad have been confined to writing skills, alienation themes and character analysis, etc. No one has ever analyzed the novel from the perspective of biblical archetypes. Therefore, this paper attempts to explore the novel from the perspective of biblical archetypes. The analysis of biblical archetypes can help readers discover the true nature of white's creation of the tree. Intention and White's own sense of life, Therefore, in order to better understand the novel and the author, we must first study the biblical archetypes in the novel. This paper is based on Northrop Frye's archetypal criticism theory, and analyzes the biblical archetypes in the Tree of Man from three aspects: character shaping, image and theme. Many of the main characters in the novel are metaphorically derived from some of the classic characters in the Bible, most notably the protagonists, Stan Parker and Emily Parker, from Adam and Eve in the Bible. In addition, White created two "lost lambs" in the novel Ray Parker and Selma Parker, and two Satan, Tom Armstrong and Madeleine. In his novels, White used a lot of inspirational images and demonic images, among which water, fire and tree were the most frequently used archetypal images. Readers can easily find that three of the most common archetypal themes are used in the novel: depravity, Redemption and Rebirth. By using these biblical archetypes, White points out that humans are actually repeating some of the biblical stories, floods, fires, and other hardships in life as obstacles to the road to happiness, once they are crossed. The human spirit will be sublimated. In White's eyes, the experience of life lies in constant exploration and understanding, a process that continues from generation to generation as human beings multiply, and never ends. Simplicity and humility are the essence of human life.
