【摘要】：《尤利西斯》被公認為西方文學最具影響力的作品之一,自其問世以來,對于這部意識流巨著的分析和研究不勝枚舉。但喬伊斯在該作品中采用了前所未有的“實驗性文字形式”,這為以傳統(tǒng)語言學為基礎的傳統(tǒng)文體學研究造成了障礙。因此,為數(shù)眾多的文學研究所得出的結論迫切地需要語言層面上的證據(jù)支持。 與此同時,以系統(tǒng)功能語法為主要理論基礎的功能文體學已發(fā)展成為一門影響較為廣泛的文體學科,其中的及物性系統(tǒng)和評價系統(tǒng)已被前人研究證明對于文學文體具有獨到的解釋力。及物性系統(tǒng)將研究重心放在對小句結構的客觀研究上,而評價系統(tǒng)則更為關注話語使用者的主觀態(tài)度,因此本文認為及物性分析和評價系統(tǒng)中的態(tài)度子系統(tǒng)分析的結合可為《尤利西斯》中的角色塑造提供更為全面系統(tǒng)的視角。本文借助上述兩種理論工具,采用定性和定量分析相結合的分析方法對《尤利西斯》第三章中主人公角色塑造進行功能文體學分析,最終得以證明功能文體學是闡釋和研究意識流小說文體的有效理論工具。 本文共分為五章。第一章“導論”部分介紹了本文的研究背景、研究意義等基礎信息之后,第二章“文獻綜述”回顧了前人對功能文體學和《尤利西斯》的研究。作為功能文體學的理論基礎,系統(tǒng)功能語法的基本框架在第三章中得以呈現(xiàn),兩種廣泛應用于文學文本研究的理論及物性系統(tǒng)和評價系統(tǒng)為本章的介紹重點。第四章“《尤利西斯》第三章中角色塑造的功能文體學分析”首先將《尤利西斯》第三章中的話語分為了兩種：如實描寫主人公斯蒂芬的各種主觀內心活動的內心獨白話語,以及在不同主題的內心獨白中起過渡作用的現(xiàn)實事件話語。隨后通過對現(xiàn)實事件話語及物性分析,本文發(fā)現(xiàn),與其他角色相對比,斯蒂芬直接充當及物物質小句動作者的可能性較低,其發(fā)出的動作對周遭事物缺乏影響力,這與喬學評論界對斯蒂芬角色形象的一貫認識相吻合。接著,根據(jù)評價理論的思想,本文將不同主題內心獨白話語中的態(tài)度資源分為正面和負面態(tài)度資源,經過定量和定性相結合的分析手段,闡釋了斯蒂芬對不同事物所采取的不同態(tài)度,例如對藝術和過往的欣賞,對現(xiàn)處環(huán)境的不滿以及對女性和自身所抱有的模糊態(tài)度等等。這些發(fā)現(xiàn)為慣有的文學評論提供了語言層面的證據(jù)支持。最后一章“結語”總結了全文的主要發(fā)現(xiàn)并展望了將來的研究發(fā)展方向。
