【摘要】：正民國七年,歲在戊午,夏歷三月初四(一九一八年四月十四日),父親周汝昌出生在天津咸水沽西頭的一個(gè)大戶家庭。他排行第五,乳名曰魁(也作奎)。他出生的這個(gè)周家,當(dāng)初人多族眾,分居異爨。他不但是家中幼子,在各房各支中排行十五,都居末位。父親這一輩,取名"昌"字。祖父初為他選一表字"壽康",取自《詩經(jīng)》的"俾爾壽而康,俾爾熾而昌。"爾即汝也;后又取"禹言"。父親覺得"禹言"側(cè)重昌字,與"汝"無聯(lián)系,而且與清代名人丁汝昌略同,故改用"玉言",取《書經(jīng)》"玉欲成"玉成女(汝)"之義。友朋戲言:"玉言"者,豈非"石頭記"乎?由此看來,他自取名起就"命中注定"訣治紅學(xué)。
