1. Introduction to Topic:
Although France and Germany are both the major player in the European Union, the fact is that there are huge sociological differences among the two countries that in turn affect the leadership effectiveness in these countries (Bohn & Jong, 2011). Angela Merkel who is the Chancellor of Germany, and Nicholas Sarkozy who is the president of France are although considered effective leaders in their countries, the fact is that both the persons depict different personality attributes. Realizing the significance of sound leadership for a country, efforts will be directed in this paper to investigate critically the effectiveness of leadership in France and Germany (Paumeir, 2011).  The paper will review the relevant gender, diversity and multi-cultural leadership literature by Identifying what behaviors, skills and attributes an effective leader operating cross culturally in Europe would ideally possess. The paper will also present the challenges and issues confronted by each of the leaders, and elaborate the comparative styles and approaches of the two leaders and assess the comparative effectiveness of each leader, both within their own countries and within Europe as a whole.
