This paper outlines the emerging system of theories and techniques of analytical and experimental procedures which is called advanced experimental mechanics. The strong interdependence of requiremencs of modern technology and modern societies, recent developments in physics, modern scientific trends in development of constitutive materials equations, recent development in analytical mechanics, and the concepts and procedures of advanced experimental mechanics is illustrated by examples. It is shown that it is very practical in engineering research to accept the modern scientific methodology, to test the chosen approach against the requirements of the correspondence principle in science, and to assess critically the influence of the momentarily prevailing paradigms.

Lating America is a large and complex area. The typical Latin American culture is the end product of the long interacting processes of varied traditions and cultures, on which a characteristic Latin American journalism grows up. In addition, the cultural imperialism of the United states in this area has produced a well-known phenomenon in most of the Latin American countries—“the co existence of a developed media system and the still underdeveloped economy” This essay is trying to perceive the past and present of Latin American journalism in political, economic, and social terms as well. The geographic character of the area is emphasized and some observations are made on the complex relationships among governments, media, and the American imperialism. This essay is concluded by contending that the post-colonial Latin American countries have to face much more difficult and complex choices and the media in these countries must cope with unprecedented challenges, such as government censorship, the subordination of media to business interests, etc. But one trend is obvious and not reversible, that is, the status of the media in modern societies have to be enhanced with the emergence of new and advanced communication instruments, and those political, cultural barriers which in the past were thought insurmountable will be overcomed.

南美洲是一個廣闊而復(fù)雜的地區(qū)。各種文化在此碰撞、交融， 最終形成了獨具特色的南美文化。在這種文化土壤中成長起來的新聞業(yè)也獨具特色。特別是在美國文化霸權(quán)的強(qiáng)有力沖擊下， 使得這一地區(qū)形成了“發(fā)達(dá)的新聞體制和落后的經(jīng)濟(jì)并存”的局面。本文從政治、經(jīng)濟(jì)、社會等角度出發(fā)透視南美洲新聞業(yè)的歷史與現(xiàn)狀， 旨在強(qiáng)調(diào)南美洲的地域特性， 探討南美各國政府、媒體， 以及美國在這一地區(qū)的霸權(quán)地位三者間的復(fù)雜關(guān)系。文章指出， 后殖民時代的南美各國將面臨更為艱難而復(fù)雜的選擇， 其媒體的發(fā)展也將面臨來自各方面（ 如新聞自由與政府控制、商業(yè)利益對新聞業(yè)的沖擊， 等等） 的挑戰(zhàn)。但有一點是可以肯定的， 那就是： 在新的傳播手段不斷涌現(xiàn)的當(dāng)今， 原來被認(rèn)為無法逾越的政治、文化壁壘將會被沖破，現(xiàn)代社會中媒體的影響力必然得到加強(qiáng)。
