【摘要】：上世紀(jì)六十年代，敘事研究在西方興起，隨后很快發(fā)展成為一門新興學(xué)科。敘事學(xué)就是關(guān)于敘事作品、敘述、敘述結(jié)構(gòu)以及敘述性的理論，經(jīng)歷了早期敘事理論、經(jīng)典敘事學(xué)、后經(jīng)典敘事學(xué)三個階段。敘述不僅表征現(xiàn)實(shí)，同時還建構(gòu)現(xiàn)實(shí)。曾經(jīng)在語料庫翻譯研究領(lǐng)域取得卓越成績的英國翻譯學(xué)者蒙娜·貝克把社會學(xué)領(lǐng)域的敘事研究與翻譯研究相結(jié)合形成了社會敘事理論，為翻譯理論研究提供了新的思路和獨(dú)特的視角。貝克認(rèn)為：翻譯不僅表征敘述，同時還建構(gòu)敘述。 嚴(yán)復(fù)的譯作《天演論》是中國翻譯界一個劃時代的作品，嚴(yán)復(fù)也因此創(chuàng)造了“信達(dá)雅”的翻譯標(biāo)準(zhǔn)，，從而奠定了他在中國翻譯界的重要地位，多年來一直被翻譯理論家從多方面進(jìn)行研究。然而從社會學(xué)的角度去研究《天演論》對晚清時代的社會影響卻鮮有人做。嚴(yán)復(fù)所生活的時代，正是中國遭受西方列強(qiáng)入侵、封建社會日漸衰落以及民眾思想處于混沌之時，當(dāng)時社會的主流話語依然是“三綱五常”、“別尊卑，明貴賤”、“天不變，道亦不變”等等。為了改變當(dāng)時的社會現(xiàn)狀，為了民族的未來，嚴(yán)復(fù)選擇了翻譯西學(xué)，以此來達(dá)到自己改變落后的封建主流話語，從而振興中華的抱負(fù)。 翻譯作為一種社會敘述，它不僅表征現(xiàn)實(shí)，同時還建構(gòu)現(xiàn)實(shí)。嚴(yán)復(fù)是怎樣通過他的譯作來重新建構(gòu)主流話語的呢?這些主流話語又是通過什么方式來對當(dāng)時的社會產(chǎn)生影響的呢？在本文中筆者試圖以社會敘事理論中的建構(gòu)策略為支點(diǎn)來探究嚴(yán)復(fù)在翻譯《進(jìn)化論與倫理學(xué)》時如何選擇并建構(gòu)諸如“競爭”、“淘汰”、“物競天擇”、“適者生存”等主流話語的，進(jìn)而闡明其譯作《天演論》中的主流話語是如何影響人們思想及整個晚清局勢的。蒙娜·貝克的社會敘事理論中的建構(gòu)策略主要包括：時空建構(gòu)、加標(biāo)記建構(gòu)、選擇性建構(gòu)和對參與者的重新定位四種策略。筆者通過仔細(xì)研讀嚴(yán)復(fù)譯作與原文本，發(fā)現(xiàn)以上所述的四種建構(gòu)策略很好地體現(xiàn)《天演論》主流話語的敘述當(dāng)中。此外，筆者通過“敘述”的三種類型，即：概念敘述、集體敘述和公共敘述，闡述了嚴(yán)復(fù)主流話語的傳播過程，并結(jié)合譯文詳實(shí)地論證了《天演論》中主流話語的敘述是如何影響到晚清政局的。
