[Abstract]:From the 1960 s to the early 1970s, the revolutionaries of the North American colonies paid close attention to and supported John Wilkes, a radical British statesman, and his parliamentary reform movement. For the purpose of resisting the policies of home countries and defending their rights, the revolutionaries copied the political discourse and conduct of the Wilkes incident and converted and utilized the relevant political information in the light of the colonial factor, Created the image of Wilkes as the Friends of Liberty in America. The Wilkes incident stimulated and promoted the colonial struggle against Britain. Based on an understanding of freedom and the discourse of rights, Anglo-American radicals exchanged voices and once formed a spiritual "transatlantic community." Wilkes' influence in the colonies declined after 1770. But the incident provided the North American independence movement with ideological and political resources.
