[Abstract]:In both ancient and modern societies, the most important function of funerals as a ritual is remembrance and mourning. In this respect, the funeral of the ancient Romans was no exception. It was the living saying goodbye to the dead and mourning. A way of expressing respect. In addition, the funeral of Roman aristocrats also has special display and memory functions. The glory of the deceased and the glorious history of his family can be reflected in all aspects of the funeral. Under this display, the unique political and family culture of Roman society was revealed. In the last hundred years of the Republic, Roman politics was rife with conflict, struggle, and destruction, and the funeral of politicians often revealed the control and struggle for power between different interest groups. Through the analysis of the funeral rites of the nobility in the late Roman Republic and the early imperial period, this paper examines the general views of the Romans on death and the unknown world in the pre-Christian era, and then understands the family and political life. The role of individuals and public spaces in the life of Roman citizens. At the same time, through the interpretation of the funeral of some political figures in the late Roman Republic and the early Empire, the subtle relationship between ceremony and power under different political circumstances and the political system changes revealed behind them were investigated.
