本翻譯材料選自美國南方女作家艾倫·格拉斯哥1932年出版的小說《庇護下的生活》中的第一章。該小說被譽為艾倫·格拉斯哥“最動人、最具穿透力的小說”,它深刻反映了美國舊南方社會是如何受到工業(yè)化的沖擊、又是如何分解的,對美國文學(xué)乃至世界文學(xué)產(chǎn)生了深遠的影響。H.R.姚斯和W.伊澤爾的接受美學(xué)理論發(fā)端于20世紀(jì)60年代的德國,該理論認(rèn)為文學(xué)作品的本文只能提供一個多層次的結(jié)構(gòu)框架,其中留有許多未定點,其中,“意義空白”是接受美學(xué)的一個重要概念。本文以接受美學(xué)理論為指導(dǎo),從意義空白的角度探討《庇護下的生活》詞匯、句法、語篇等方面的特點,同時分析譯者在翻譯過程中遇到的問題,如因一詞多義、詞義缺乏、中英文化差異或黑人英語的使用而造成原文本的意義空白。在詞匯、句法及語篇層面,本文列舉了形容詞、動詞、名詞、黑人英語、簡單句、復(fù)合句及銜接與連貫方式等方面的意義空白以及相應(yīng)的解決辦法,即意義空白填補機制。本文以小說《庇護下的生活》為研究對象,以接受美學(xué)理論為指導(dǎo),探討了相關(guān)的翻譯策略,如意譯、釋譯、異化翻譯、歸化翻譯等,譯者希望此文可以為研究文學(xué)翻譯的學(xué)者貢獻微薄力量。
