[Abstract]:The important position and function of Chinese Americans in American society is becoming more and more obvious. Since the American Gold Rush began in the middle of the 19th century, there have been Chinese immigrants to the United States. Chinese in the United States are in a country with rich Western cultural atmosphere, and bear the conflict and collision of the Eastern and Western civilizations directly. Therefore, the issue of cultural adaptation has become an important issue for Chinese Americans. The Chinese experienced painful cultural conflicts and identity problems in the early stages of their migration to the United States and actively tried to integrate into the mainstream culture of the United States. Finally, it is possible to integrate into the mainstream through the strategy of cultural adaptation. The purpose of this paper has two aspects. First, from the perspective of culture and history, combining the early living conditions of Chinese Americans and the factors of American culture, it reveals the cultural puzzles and challenges faced by Chinese Americans in the United States. Second, combining the changes in Chinese society in the United States after World War II and the achievements of Chinese in politics, education and social status, it explains the cultural adjustment measures adopted by Chinese Americans in the United States. And efforts to maintain the continuation of Chinese traditional culture in the United States. By analyzing the three strategies adopted by the Chinese in the United States in their attempt to integrate into the mainstream culture, this paper demonstrates that the effective survival strategy of the Chinese in the United States is cultural adaptation. At the same time, it points out that the essence of the strategy is that the Chinese take the initiative to adjust themselves. Instead of passively being Americanized.
