近代早期英格蘭的“鄉(xiāng)紳修志”現象

【摘要】：英格蘭地方志的編撰始于16世紀70年代,以威廉·蘭巴德的《肯特郡志》為標志,后又有約翰·斯托的《倫敦城志》、托馬斯·納什的《雅茅斯城志》、威廉·伯頓的《萊斯特郡志》、威廉·達格代爾的《沃里克郡志》等一批優(yōu)秀的作品問世,由此,地方志特別是郡志的編撰進入繁榮期。從17世紀下半葉開始,地方志的撰寫增加了"自然史"的內容。這一時期編撰地方志的主體是鄉(xiāng)紳階層,他們受過良好的教育,或是法律學者,或是紋章官,或是古物研究者。作為民族國家命運共同體一員的地方志史家,修志行為既反映了他們的民族情感和對國家的熱愛,同時也體現了鄉(xiāng)紳強烈的地方認同感,由此形成"鄉(xiāng)紳修志"現象。產生"鄉(xiāng)紳修志"這一現象的原因在于,十六七世紀既是英國民族國家的形成時期,也是地方認同和郡共同體形成的歷史時期。"鄉(xiāng)紳修志"即是地方認同和民族認同交織在一起的文化體現。
[Abstract]:The compilation of the Local Chronicles of England began in the 1670s and was marked by William Lambard's Kent Chronicles, followed by John Stowe's London City Records and Thomas Nash's Yarmouth chronicles. William Burton's Leicester County Records, William Dagdale's Warwick County Records, and so on, so the compilation of local chronicles, especially county chronicles, entered a period of prosperity. Since the second half of the 17 th century, the writing of local chronicles has added the content of natural history. The main body of the local chronicles during this period was the gentry, who were well educated, either law scholars, heraldry, or antiquities researchers. As a member of the national destiny community, the local chronicists not only reflect their national feelings and love of the country, but also reflect the local identity of the squire. The reason for this phenomenon lies in the fact that the 167th century was not only the forming period of the British nation-state, but also the historical period of the local identity and the formation of the county community. " The local identity and national identity are intertwined with each other.
