[Abstract]:The Oxford movement was a sociocultural movement in England in the mid-19th century. Most of the founders of the campaign were professors at Oxford University, so they said. The aim was to reinvigorate the Church of England by reviving some of the teachings and rituals of Roman Catholicism. The aim of the early booksellers Kibble, Newman, and Freud was to liberate the church from the bondage of the state and restore the authority of the church. But when the bishops refused to accept their call, especially after Newman's departure from the Church of England in 1845, the leaders of the High Church in the Church of England made a comeback, bringing the Church back into the conservative state omnipotism. Most of them are concentrated in the field of religion, but before and after the development of the whole movement, it can not be regarded as a purely religious conservative movement. It was an integral part of the 1819 th-century Romantic Spirit and Cultural Movement. This paper makes a systematic study of the development process of the Oxford Movement by using the interdisciplinary research method and integrating the relevant theoretical knowledge of history, religion, sociology and so on. After a comprehensive analysis of the background of the Oxford movement, the main events of the development of the Oxford movement and the thoughts of its main leaders, the author believes that, As a radical and chaotic thought of British society in the transitional period, Oxford Movement was a conservative movement with wide influence in religion, culture, thought and politics. It reflects the reservation and maintenance of traditional thought in Britain during the period of transition.
