【摘要】：正南朝梁武帝普通三年(522),析益陽縣置藥山縣,治今沅江市三眼塘,亦為藥山郡郡治。轄境相當于今年沅江市大部及益陽縣北部。隨開皇九年(589)廢郡,合藥山、重華二縣為安樂縣,屬巴陵郡,治原藥山縣治,轄境與原藥山縣相當。隨開皇十三年(593),治移今沅江市區(qū)。隋開皇十八年(593),改安樂縣為沅江縣,治駐原址。自此沅江稱名于世。沅江縣何以為名?歷有二說,一說以沅水"流水歸宿之地"而得名。二說
