論文采用歷史-生平研究法和文本細讀法,通過探討了拉爾夫·沃爾多·愛默生作為社會改革者,特別是作為一名堅定的廢奴主義者所進行的政治實踐。本文在前人史學(xué)研究和文學(xué)研究的基礎(chǔ)上,分析了愛默生的廢奴政治主張。論文指出愛默生的廢奴政治主張隨著美國社會和內(nèi)戰(zhàn)的發(fā)展而不斷演變,因而需要進行重新分類整理。通過歷史語境化和文學(xué)分析的手段,結(jié)合美國內(nèi)戰(zhàn)前后時期的歷史語境,論文揭示了愛默生廢奴政治的形成過程和主要內(nèi)涵。論文第一章主要探討了愛默生廢奴政治產(chǎn)生的外部條件。第二章闡述了愛默生的崇高廢奴政治的主要策略,即通過道德勸說和自我修養(yǎng)提升來改善內(nèi)在自我,從而促進廢奴運動的發(fā)展。第三章討論了隨著內(nèi)戰(zhàn)的臨近,愛默生的廢奴政治從崇高戰(zhàn)略策略轉(zhuǎn)向暴力抵抗廢奴策略。愛默生意識到自我改善過程緩慢,迫切需要集體行動來對抗當時美國社會存在的蓄奴制現(xiàn)象。第四章分析了愛默生在后期關(guān)于黑人種族未來和美國社會種族和諧的思想。結(jié)論部分總結(jié)了愛默生作為積極的社會改革者和一個堅定的廢奴主義者的主要廢奴思想。
