    Northwest China's Xingjiang Autonomous Region is a major cotton production area in China. It is essential for cotton production and trade management to collect objective and timely information of cotton growing area at a national level. So far West China's Landsat TM image can not be received efficiently in China and it is impossible to monitor Xingjiang's cotton area using remote sensing for China Ministry of Agriculture before the China-Brazil Earth Resources Satellite (CBERS-1) was launched in 1999 and operationally...

    Northwest China's Xingjiang Autonomous Region is a major cotton production area in China. It is essential for cotton production and trade management to collect objective and timely information of cotton growing area at a national level. So far West China's Landsat TM image can not be received efficiently in China and it is impossible to monitor Xingjiang's cotton area using remote sensing for China Ministry of Agriculture before the China-Brazil Earth Resources Satellite (CBERS-1) was launched in 1999 and operationally used in 2000. The objective of this research is to evaluate the possibility of agricultural application with CBERS-1 data. In the recent two years, a satellite remote sensing based approach for cotton growing area monitoring in Northwest China using CBERS-1 data was developed and operationally used in China Ministry of Agriculture.

    新疆是我國(guó)重要的產(chǎn)棉區(qū)。全面、快速、客觀地監(jiān)測(cè)棉花種植面積的年際波動(dòng)情況 ,可為生產(chǎn)管理部門提供重要的決策依據(jù)。該項(xiàng)目是CBRES 1應(yīng)用示范項(xiàng)目之一 ,目的是研究其應(yīng)用潛力。該研究建立了基于CBERS 1衛(wèi)星圖像的新疆棉花種植面積遙感監(jiān)測(cè)運(yùn)行系統(tǒng)的技術(shù)體系 ,實(shí)現(xiàn)了新疆棉花種植面積的遙感監(jiān)測(cè) ,并為應(yīng)用中巴資源一號(hào)衛(wèi)星CCD數(shù)據(jù)監(jiān)測(cè)我國(guó)其它大宗農(nóng)作物的種植面積提供示范 ,為后續(xù)衛(wèi)星在農(nóng)業(yè)領(lǐng)域的大規(guī)模應(yīng)用打下基礎(chǔ)。
